Jesus Christ, that is possibly the most ridiculous article ive ever seen, the "sticky tape" is actually called speed tape,a strong aluminium tape thats often used on aircraft in many places, the reason why this was placed on the windscreen was probably due to the fact the windscreen was only just replaced, the sealant involved when changing a windscreen can have a cure time of up to 24 hours to set, hence applying the layer of speed tape will protect the sealant until its cured and the aircraft is perfectly serviceable.

The article also claims 200 pax on a 738, so its not particularly accurate...

A complete non-story written by somebody who obviously doesn't have a bloody clue! Absolutely nothing wrong with what Ryanair did here.

LOL, Speed tape otherwise known as 500MPH tape. Very commonly used on aircraft, has to be applied properly though, mind you.

I remember helping Engineers tape up some non structural panels on the underside of a 727 wing once. It was a horse charter and the grooms gave us some funny looks when they saw what we were doing.:D But they didn't report their terror to the Daily Mail!:P The Racing Post maybe. Got a nice tip on a horse from one of them.

    Hi all,

Had an "incident" with the rear window of my car a few nights ago...

    solution?

    1 election poster
1 roll of boeing speed tape
    1 scissors

Handled motorway speeds and that mad rain with no problems yet!

    Results can be seen below!

Add in the Evening Herald and it would be a perfect storm of dodgy scaremongering journalism

    Readers comments. :D

"May I say the Gaffer tape should be firmly put O'learys across his mouth especially if it lasts 7 days"

"Always thought that O'Leary was a bit of a cheapskate but now he's mending his planes with tape?"

"Cancel their operating licence immediately ~Safety breaches like this one are well out of order!!"

"If I was Micheal O'Leary, I would sue over this poorly reported non story".

According to a DM article a Ryanair flight used duct tape to seal a leaking cockpit window before returning back to Stanstead. It also mentioned that it was an approved procedure. Is this true?

The fact you have to ask is it true is worrying.. How do you not fall down more often. Same goes for anyone who would even contemplate that a story like this could be remotely true. Ah,the great unwashed.

A former Pilot was also concerned.

Former pilot John Guntrip said: "This could have been disastrous, the pilot could have been sucked out mid-air if the window had come off."

Fair play to him but I wouldn't mind what a "former pilot" quoted in the Sun or Daily Mail or whatever ****e it was in has to say.

Just because someone claims to be a former pilot doesn't mean a thing when they come out with drivel like this!

    From Mr.Boeing himself :
"If you must send the airplane before the sealant is fully cured, install Scotch 425 Aluminum Foil Tape, G00291 on the top of the sealant"

Anyway I just called my good mate MacGyver and he said it was all good.
