Before this election, I had no opinions on Mitchell, then I tuned into the Dunphy Show on Newstalk, and witnessed what can only be described as a passive aggressive rant the like I have never heard on Irish radio before. He similarly went off on one last night on the Frontline whth Pat Kenny visibly upset at the tirade of abuse.
Very little seems to trigger these acute mood swings, Martin McGuinness's voice or Pat Kenny not allowing him to finish his answer or whatever. But one thing is for certain, when it happens it is scary and uncomfortable listening and viewing. The guy is certifiable.

He was just a lad throwin' his toys out of the pram cause the public don't like.

Now we like him less, hope he comes last to be honest.

Thought it was great to see one of them lay into Pat, he was right about it being a stupid question regarding O'Brien

The question was from a member of the public not Pat.

...so yeah you're right, the public are stupid voting for a FFailer.

And directed at Davis, he then proceeded to ask the rest of them, have to say I agreed with McGuinness and Mitchell on it.

The question was totally stupid and should not have been asked by Kenny.

He was on a radio interview during the lisbon 2 and became hysterical at the interviewer that we would have the audacity to defeat it,similary during the bailout when Barrossa attacked the Irish people for being wholly responsible for the downturn and all the money that was thrown to the irish banks by their greedy mates in europe he went on another tirade against the Irish people backing himself and the simpletons running the EU because Gay was knocking an unmerciful salary out of it.Soldidarity with the Irish people my arse.

+1. Agreed. Mitchell has a long history of ranting usually at the people who pay him! He is clearly ******************.

Post edited as calling someone a twat or ignorant is against boards sensitivity !

Mitchell had a point in some respects though. Asking everyone about Denis O'Brien was unfair when the man wasn't there, despite what we think of him. Pat Kenny as host, should've had the sense to ask the question to maybe Davis and Gallagher. Asking the rest was too much, unfair and trial by TV again for a man not there to speak for himself.

If this had been part of a reality tv show, his out of control rant would certainly feature in his 'best bits'.

Whilst highly amusing, as a Presidential candidate he didn't exactly inspire much faith in his ability to speak in public or indeed control his emotions while doing so, at home or abroad.

I don't think he should be let loose in an international capacity, lest he do more harm than good.

Having said all that, as indisretions go I suppose most other candidates have offended at some stage during this campaign.

The presidential part of the referendum should be cancelled & Mary McAleese should be forced to stay on in an acting capacity until we can find some half suitable candidates imo.

We don;t allow posters to throw around petty abuse at each other, and we aren't going to let throw the same nonsense at non-members. There is a line between intelligent discussion and low brow nonsense

There wasn't much that was passive about his outburst last night.

There wasn't much that was passive about his outburst last night.
He has two modes. passive aggressive and aggressive. All it takes to switch from one to the other is a perceived slight on the part of an interviewer.
I think what triggered him off last night was not the question about O'Brien, but the fact that Pat Kenny skipped him in the previous question, and talked over him in the one before that.

It was funny.. I was in the process of typing a post on another forum last night and commenting on how Mitchell had handled himself better in tonights debate than he has in others, and put it down to him not really have the opportunity to put his foot in it. Then, just as I hit the 'post reply' button, he comes out of the blue and loses the head :pac:

I don't think the question was stupid at all - it relates to their judgement and who they see as suitable advisors.

I would not vote for any candidate who thought O'Brien suitable - others may differ on that but the question was illuminating.

So, there is a constant refrain about politicians that "they are all the same" as they go out of their way to say nothing controversial and be as middle of the road in their opinions as possible. Yet, when one of them turns out to actually break with that stultifying nonsense, everyone gets all upset because they do so?

What are we? A group of pre-schoolers who start complaining the moment anyone voices anything that isn't all kinds of everything for everyone?

i would be a lot more concerned how the rest of the candidates stood there and said they wouldn't comment on a person that was not there to defend themselves yet then said i would not have them in my list.

Fair play to gay and the rest of the candidates where quick enough to back him once he confronted kenny, just hadn't the balls to do it themselves

I thought Gay did alright here and not his biggest fan, far from it.

However, the alleged fuel smuggler wasn't there to defend himself either but nobody seemed to care about him.

By any chance has Denis O'Brien made a political donation that might warrant such protective treatment?
