Body Found after Garda Missing

    Very sad to hear.

    From RTE.ie

Search teams trying to locate missing Garda Ciaran Jones have discovered a body close to the location where he was swept into the Liffey last night.
The discovery was made by a local search team within the past half hour at Ballyward Bridge which is near Manor Kilbride.
A garda subaqua team is on its way to the scene to help retrieve the body.
The River Liffey was dangerously high at Ballysmuttan, near Manor Kilbride yesterday evening.
Garda Jones was off-duty at the time, but, it is thought, he stopped to warn motorists of the danger.
The bridge, which was newly-reconstructed in recent years, had previously been damaged in heavy floods.
Local civil defence teams began a search in the early hours of this morning and a large number of volunteers are expected to join the search today.
Garda Jones has been a member of the force for around four years.
His brother and sister were at the scene last night and his parents who are out of the country on holidays are expected to return to Dublin this afternoon.

The news is that a body have been found but not yet identified. As it is likely that this is the body of the Garda we'll leave this open.
Even though this is related to the floodings I will allow out it of respect for the Garda.
There will be no other flooding discussion here other than directly linked to this tragic death.
    RIP.

A thread about the Gardai that's not bashing them. Rare as hens teeth...

This young man died doing what the vast majority of his colleagues do on a daily basis. Put their well being at risk so the rest of us can carry on our lives in happy ignorant bliss.

The fact that he went out on a day like yesterday when the weather was of biblically bad proportions, while not even on duty makes it all the more impressive. He could have stayed at home with his feet up in front of the fire but instead went out and did something to improve the lives of Joe Bloggs and his community. Some of those same Joe Bloggs who come on here to proclaim the Gardai as useless, lazy, uncaring, incompetent etc etc.

    RIP Ciaran and thanks

Brother knew him. Supposedly a really sound chap.

    Very sad news about him.
As others said, he was off duty and he still tried to help people. That man had a lot more courage compared t many of us. Bit of a hero to be honest. RIP.
