Steam Consumption

    Hi

    I am looking to find out the method to work out the amount of steam required to bring a 316L stainless steel vessel capacity 100L to a temperature of 123 deg. C for a total of 45 minutes.

    I have come across some equations such as
    Q = m cp dT
    where
    Q = quantity of energy or heat (kJ)
    m = mass of the substance (kg)
    cp = specific heat capacity of the substance (kJ/kg oC )
    dT = temperature rise of the substance (oC)

    q = m cp dT / t
    where
    q = mean heat transfer rate (kW (kJ/s))
    m = mass of the product (kg)
    cp = specific heat capacity of the product (kJ/kg.oC)

    dT = Change in temperature of the fluid (oC)
    t = total time over which the heating process occurs (seconds)
    However I am unsure which is the correct one and how to work out the calculation.

    Mods feel free to move to mathimathics if deemed appropriate.

    Much help appreciated.
