An Iranian Christian minister has been sentence to death for apostasy : CNN link.
Normally I believe that each country's internal laws should be respected. However there are exceptions to everything, so would emails to the EU about this case be a way to highlight this human rights issue (Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights)?

This story has been getting some international coverage, thank God. I believe that international condemnation has been pretty widespread.

From America, from Britian, and others. Forgive me if my links are a bit sloppy. The Irish Christian Human rights group Church in Chains has been terrific highlighting this issue and many others like him.

Please please remember him in your prayers.

Also, I would ask any Muslims out there who do not support this action to do what they can for him too.

Lets wait and see shall we?

He maybe being persecuted for political reasons, and not for religious reasons.

According to this report, Youcef Nadarkhani faces death on several charges of rape and extortion!

I believe such accusations of rape/extortion to be fabricated to hide the underlying anti-christian agenda!

This has been a well known and followed case for almost a year in the Churches of Ireland who pray for the persecuted Church. We have not only been following many news reports but also receiving information, directly from with Iran from the Churches there.

Youcefs lawyer is Muslim and has been very courageous to take his case. An 'order of events' is posted on the Church in Chains website, however, this case is all over the Secular news as well.

Although Youcef was arrested for apostasy at first, it was after he protested at his sons school regarding the fact that they were teaching the Children Islam, that they took him into full-time custody.

Yes I had heard of the case, but given the zionist attempted build up for war with Iran I have taken it with a grain of salt, now it looks like he is facing charges for being a sexual criminal and not for his supposed faith.

According to this report, Youcef Nadarkhani faces death on several charges of rape and extortion!

You didn't read your own link, the charges were changed after he was charged with Apostasy. The quote from the link you sent was

'Christian Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani will be put to death for several charges of rape and extortion, charges that differ greatly from his original sentence of apostasy, Iran's semi-official Fars News agency reported Friday.'

Other accusations that are common with the persecution of Christians are, drug dealing and selling state secrets. This isn't a new tactic. Now that the administrations of other countries realise that the persecution of Christians is a human rights offence and unacceptable to the international community, they use other cooked up reasons. Sadly it's nothing new.

I wasn't dissing the poor man's plight, just showing how CNN is talking out of of both side of it's mouth so to speak. I myself believe that such accusations of rape/extortion to be fabricated to hide the underlying anti-christian agenda!

Forgive me, I thought the thread was going very pear shaped what with Zionist conspiracy theories 'n all. I didn't get the subtlety of what you were saying.:o

It was my fault, I guess I should have made myself more clear on what my intentions were, sorry! :o

So should people sit back and do nothing if a man is being persecuted for political reasons?Anyway,in Iran religion is political.

Given that Iran is the most democratic and socially just countries in the region and under constant threat of Imperialist invasion at the moment with troops massing on its border with Iraq, than yes who cares if they persecute traitors to the fatherland?

Mmmmm, I don't know if I'd call them one of the most just countries in the region. I have a theory that when a country is arresting it's artists, it's becoming a paranoid state. Very dangerous. Iran is known for it's film industry and now it's film makers are being arrested. Not something that happens in a country where it's citizens feel free:(

    This is sarcasm, right?

As to doing anything? apart from international pressure theirs little else that can be done and Iran is sensitive to the international communities opinion so he has a good chance of an acquittal or the charges being dropped.
    That was sarcasm BTW
