Halloween Ball vs. Democracy

Unfortunately the Halloween Ball is on the same day as the voting. For all those who aren't registered near the school, we will have to make a choice between the two.

I'm heading back Wesht to vote, and hope others who can't make the Ball do the same.

As for the Ball, it'll be lacking in Politically motivated culchies.

I think the Ball was awesome last year, and it's a shame that I have to miss it due to such a clash.

Anyone else want to express their grievances?

So two things I'd have to say here.

    1) Unfortunately the gig in the academy was booked well before the date for the election and referenda was set. It sucks but to change the date now would result in financial loss. The worst thing about the date is the fact our government have still set it for the middle of the week while not only are people committed to work but students committed to study, we still work and have class on thursdays and fridays.

    2) As a lot of students will still have classes on thursday and friday it makes more sense for those that want to vote and have to travel home, to do so on Wednesday evening so they can travel up after voting to make their classes on thursday and friday. Doing this also means you'd be in Dublin for Thursday evening and could go to the ball like cinderella did.

    *clutches for abuse*

Yeah I'm heading home tomorrow, getting up early for the opening of the polling station, and then heading in for class after; hopefully I don't get too delayed

Two words: postal vote. Any student studying away from their home constituency can get one. Dunno if there's going to be any elections/referendums in the next year but anyone who wants one for next year just has to get a form from their county council, get it stamped by DCU and send it back before the deadline for next year's electoral register (November 25th in my constituency, don't know if it varies). It amazes me that more students don't avail of it.
