    im in second year at the moment and id highly recommend it. first year is handy enough. maths can be tricky if you don't stay on top of it but theres no maths after 1st year and 30% of your mark is an easy excel exam.

    as for the rest, if your anyway interested in programming or web development you'll have no problems. we're doing databases now in second year so what you know should come in handy.

    the workload isn't too bad usually.

    I'm in the same class as brian_plank & I found the maths handy enough. It's an interesting course, I've done multimedia before & didn't like it but I love SSD. The class size is pretty small compared to other courses too so it's easier to approach lecturers if something is on your mind. The programming is easy enough in first year but is getting a little difficult now, but as long as classes are attended you should learn enough to pass everything. If you do decide to apply for it then best of luck.

    theres a maths learning centre if your having trouble. you can even arrange to meet the lecturer there so something isn't explained 2 different ways.

    I'm in third year now and I'd say that, for the most part, it's a fairly straightforward course.

    The main thing that catches people out is sticking with the course and not going out and getting drunk the whole time.

    Pretty much everything apart from the programming (Both scripted and compiled modules) and the maths is easy. Also, you second years should make sure that you study those Database modules HARD. The tests can't be bull****** through, so you'll have to know your stuff. And study the crap out of Java too, you can never be too good at it. Mary Lyng is the nicest Lecturer that anyone could ask for, and she'll help you with the scripted languages if you're having trouble though, as I'm sure you've figured out by now.

    And another thing, it's impossibly hard to find someone to take you on for your Internship, so start sending those CV's out NOW! And make it VERY clear that you only want to do an Internship and that it's for free on the cover note.

    Good luck!

    I'm applying to the CAO now;
    I'm in between minds between this SSD course and the IT course.
    I'm naturally good with computers and love every aspect of them.

    What would you say are the main differences between the SSD and IT course?

    Thanks!
