Perfect albums for different runs

A variation on what do you listen to thread. I don't tend to use ipods as where I live I either run on the backroads and I have to keep my wits about me and when I run offroad I listen to the natural goings on around me.

This evening a combination of fading light and brutal rain forced me to use the treadmill. I'm doing well to avoid it.. only its 2nd use this year I think. Theres probably lots of CDs that fit the bill for a run but heres the one I stumbled across this evening. Figured I'd do 8k fairly easy paced run. Threw on the Stone Roses 1st album. Brings you nicely past the 8k mark where you can opt to stop. The last track is I am the Resurrection which was irresistible and got me to the 10k mark on the button as it was fading out. Perfect.

Yep its that time off year for the treadmill - my favourite albums to keep me going AC/DC - back in black, GNR Appetite for Destruction, Pearl Jam Ten, Any Springsteen album. Anything Pink Floyd. Currently listening to Creedence Clearwater Revival greatest hits - great running music:D

I mainly listen to dj mixes, house and techno mostly. I find it the perfect running music as there's always a steady beat. Also, most dj sets are long enough that there's no need to be messing about with my player while running. If only I could say the same about my ear buds :(

The Social Network soundtrack is a great running CD. Starts off nice and chilled and steadily progresses. Really nice CD. One of those CDs that keeps you out that bit longer.

Very accessible CD to all musical tastes, you probably heard alot of the CD through various tv shows who sample its atmospheric and moody sounds. Works particularly well in nice locations

With modern technology, mp3s, itunes etc people are probably less inclined to listen to entire albums end to end. Most albums worth their salt should be at least 40 mins which is an ideal time for short run. Keep the suggestions coming. Listened to Siamese dream last night which is near the 60 min mark. Thats another good one for a decent session.

I have a 10 hour playlist on my ipod with a mixture of rock tracks on shuffle. I barely hear the same track twice in one week.

Most albums have a few duds on them, which is why I don't like listening to individual albums while running (its too fiddly to take out my ipod and skip to the next song if I hit a song I don't like!)

On my 20-mile LSR for the DCM I listened to Bruce's 3-CD box set Live 1975-1985. I'm delighted to say I can run longer than an average Bruce concert :D

Here is every essential mix from 1993 to 2011

    http://m.soundcloud.com/das-boy/sets/essential-mix/

Some cracking sets in there that would keep you running around the UTMB and then some.

I'd recommend Danny Howells from 2002 which is quite possibly the finest two hours mixes ever done for running.

Starts off with Doves, then into 1970s funk, then some house, Prince, Kool and the Gang followed by some Clash, Beatles. It's pretty epic as it's all mixed like a normal house mix. Amazing bit of djing.

Rush in Rio is one of my favourite albums for an LSR. :)

In terms of shorter ones - I tend to like Dream Theater - Scenes from a Memory for runs of about 6-8 miles, Devin Townsend - Addicted or anything by Amanda Palmer/Dresden Dolls for shorter runs, loads more but that's what's coming to mind at the moment.

Not quite the same as running but i have a mix of music for when i am on the turbo.
Tonight is a toughy session as i am doing some threshold testing on the bike so i shall be blaring some loud 90s rave music to help me ignore the pain:)

Anything by Dead Can Dance is nice for easy runs. Its good music, encourages the mind to wander and keeeps the pace down. Made for an enjoyable run. I find melodic music is better for easy runs now.

Running on Empty is a great song for running.

" In sixty-five I was seventeen and running up one-on-one
I don't know where I'm running now, I'm just running on"

Weezer green album is good, albeit quite short.
I also quite enjoy the mix album 'dirtchamber sessions' by Liam Howlett of Prodigy.

    +1 on Forrest Gump
