Im sure this has been asked a thousand times and I had a look in the search but ill ask again.

Im looking to licence my first .22.Im 27 years old and living in Kinsale. So just a few questions. What would be the best club for me to join? Do I need signatures if I join a club and If I do can I use signatures from land owners that aren't in my area?

For the gun case ,Does it have to to fixed in place ?I have an out door shed next to the house thats got a locked door if the case had to be fixed can I put it in here

Im looking at the using the BLK 360 mounts for my leupold 6x36 fx-ii .Could anyone tell me what the drop compensation in the mounts means ?

you need signatures or to join a club, one or the other , not both.I think the safe has to be fixed but not sure about that.i applied for a lience myself 4 weeks ago( no sign!)and I gave my local garda station a ring and asked for the firearms officer.he gave me all the info about what i needed to know. it was well worth the call.
    best of luck

hi..its up to the local garda..if uve the safe in a secure building, bolted to the wall thats half the battle..i had my licence in 3 weeks.they didnt issue mine till they inspected safe.i didnt have to join a gun club u dont need to if uve land or if u get a farmer to write u a letter giving u permission to hunt on his land u will get it...thats my honest opinion..u could have to wait up to 3 months to get licence as it happend a friend..you'll get it ;)

Most has been answered already but i'd be against having the gun cabinet in an outside shed, not just for security rwasons but your shed will probably be a damp moist place so your gun will be very prone to rust out there

totaly agree on that. i dont think the garda would allow it being there

I think its better in the house because its much easier to have it stolen in the shed.

Thanks everyone for the info. The reason I want to store it in a shed is that I'm in rented accommodation and I don't know how the landlord will feel about me bolting something to the wall.Ill drop into the barracks in Kinsale later.

Would anyone know a good club to join in the kinsale area?
And as I said If I get permission from land owners that aren't from kinsale am I only allowed shoot those lands?

I just got an email from the club secitary saying i need a "sponsor and seconder who are current members" Would that mean because I dont know anyone at the club that i wont be able to join ?

My advice is to find out the names of a few of the members.
I bet you know a few even if you think that you don't.
Then have a chat with them and explain why you want to join the club(vermin control, gaining experience etc) and ask them to propose and second you.
So far, from what I have read here anyway, you seem to be doing everything by the book so I would be optomistic that you will get accepted.
    Best of luck

    See,you're making progress already:)

When you meet him,for gods sake don't come across as a "know it all" or you'll be sent packing fairly sharpish.
If the club thing fails you can always go down the route of getting 2 signatures.
Do you know any landowners in the area, does your work put you in the way of meeting a few, would there be any drinking in the local pub etc ?

Hhmmm I can get signatures but not from anyone in the area Im living.I asked that in the barracks "if I get signatures from land owners whos land is not in the areas ill be shooting can I still shoot in the local areas" they werent to sure.
Iv given up work and got backto collage :) so Ill have to do it the old fashioned way and get out shaking hands.

Short answer is that you can only shoot on land that you have permission.
If you start shhoting on someones land without permission you are bringing a s**tload of trouble on yourself and will almost certainly mean that the local club won't touch you with a bargepole

Well hand shaking its going to be so :)

your local club sounds the simplest option to me,if you join you can automatically shoot on club lands,no permissin needed so that solves the not knowing anyone problem (although it would be no harm to call in to the landowner and let him know you are a club member and may be shooting on his land,if he has oked the club to shoot on his land then there will be no problem)also i'm sure the local club secretary will give you the names of a few members who would propose and second you, i'm only starting out myself but everyone i have spoken to has been very helpful
