FIFA Street

Anyone looking forward to this? I'll be honest. Didn't enjoy the demo of previous versions and never invested in full game as a result. But I am liking the look of the newest of the series!

    Preview

It's back and bigger than ever. While the main FIFA series is attempting to go down the sim-esque route with Sky Sports highlight moments thrown in for good measure, FIFA Street is going bigger and bolder than ever. The completely off-the-wall flavour has been ditched for a more authentic down to earth game. In spite of this, tricks and skills are still the order of the day.

The number of skill moves included in the game has been increased and fans want to see them. Not only is there an emphasis on winning, but teams must entertain the fans. Each player will be rated according to how entertaining they were over the course of the match. Flicks, spins, tricks and flashy passes or shots will be met with approval. If used correctly, they can wrong foot the defender or goalkeeper and turn the match in your favour.

While the skill moves themselves will take a little time to actually understand so that you can pull off the right move at the right time, there are a large variety of tricks that each player has up their sleeves. Cheeky passes and shots are the order of the day. Best of all, any player can feel like a footballing god quite easily. If a skill move or two come off and set up a wonder goal, it is the moment where you feel like you have accomplished something spectacular. But of course, you can never stop at one moment.

The gameplay is quick, frantic and exciting. The matches showcased at a recent EA preview were 5v5 or 6v6. In great news, indoor soccer is back. While it's not quite the same as the good ol' days of FIFA, it brings back fond memories. The focus of FIFA Street is the grassroots soccer. Well, not quite grassroots… Players will take on teams on streets, beaches and courts from around the world.

There will be several game modes included in FIFA Street. Along with exhibition matches, game modes based on panna (1v1) and futsal will be included. Players will also be able to start with a squad of nobodies and take on the world. Along the way, they will be challenged with the potential reward of picking up notable real world players. Your created player could finally earn the chance to play alongside Wayne Rooney for example. The World Tour mode challenges players to progress from the local scene to national, European and ultimately world-stage tournaments.

It is shaping up to be a cracker. The play is fluid and fun, the skill moves are animated well and the game is graphically impressive. While the action is more frantic and goal mouth action is frequent by the nature of the size of the pitch, goal-fests are not to be immediately expected. Keepers are more than capable of holding their own and will pull off some impressive saves.

FIFA Street blurs the line between reality and simulation. Tackles are more realistic pokes and players will occasionally stumble as a result of the impact engine. The larger than life tricks and skills at the beckon of an player remind the gamer that this is not your typical FIFA game; this is FIFA Street.

Looks fun, but really, if they are using the FIFA engine and the main attraction is playing 5v5 street games and futsal, then this should really be an Arcade title or DLC for FIFA 12.

It will have to blow me away to shell out €45 for this. Although I liked the first FIFA Street, 2nd was rubbish and lets all just pretend the 3rd game never existed. They were not made by the FIFA dev team and this one is, so I will give it a chance.

Would definitely advise giving it a try. Different playstyle to FIFA12 - all about styling :)

Newest trailer looks fun - especially the schoolyard antics of kneeling down to head the ball over the line!

Demo out Tuesday! - It's all I'll be playing of it :P

Been keeping a really close eye on this, looking forward to it, but the gameplay videos have been unimpressive imo. I think if I do get it I will be all about Futsal. Having said that, the demo will be 90% of my buy or not buy decision.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,499 ✭✭✭Sabre0001

Last Man Standing is my mode of choice. I'm looking forward to it to be honest. Though I'm not happy that defenders will occasionally take charge and simply fall over (ala the promo videos).

Definitely gonna give the demo a go and hopefully it lives up to expectations. Any of the gameplay trailers I have seen are more trailer and less gameplay to be honest and theres too much moton graphics and stuff in them than actual footage. Hopefully its not all smoke and mirrors trying to dazzle us and that the actual game behind it all is poor.

    Downloading the demo now

So the demo is out, what do people think? Personally I find its a bit of a laugh for a while but then it gets a bit boring and I don't think I could justify paying full whack for it. Would have been great as something you could buy with ms points or whatever. Maybe the extra game modes make it that bit more worthwhile but I'm not sold at this point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,345 ✭✭✭jamescd

Yup I got bored of it quickly. Not a chance of me buying the full game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 110 ✭✭opengoal

I like it, spent a few hours on it today and can see it being a good game to play with mates and a few beers. Very satisfying when some of the more complex moves come off. Will give it a chance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,825 ✭✭✭Mikeyt086

    First impression: Fun.

I enjoyed my time with the demo, I played for about an hour and 20 mins. First up to get used to the game I played the 5-a-side game and tried out all the teams. Very fun game, but I can see that getting repetitive, the tricks feel clunky and unpredictable initially, but I am getting used to them. I then dived into the World Tour mode, putting this in the demo was an inspired decision imo, as it made my opinion change from "Fun game for a bit of a mess around" to "Genuinely considering buying it." I loved building the team, downloaded some friends players (Sabre, you have some explaining to do regarding some questionable defending) and easily creating mates for the team. I love **** like that. Tomorrow I will get to play against a human opponent, and most likely after a few cans, which I reckon will be where the game truly shines. At the moment I think I might get it, will probably trade in a few games against it because I'm not sure if it's worth €50.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,499 ✭✭✭Sabre0001

Sorry boss! I'll try harder :)

I'm really enjoying it. Pity it's only on Easy difficulty. Winning is easy, but I like how you can put your imagination at work. Certain combos of tricks look really cool - takes a bit of messing around with.

I'd be happy enough to play this v AI or humans locally. Not sure I'll play online. I do really like the World Tour mode and how you can slot friends into the game / build them yourself. Demo maxes out at Level 5, which is a pity because you only get a handful of skill moves at that point.

They should have used Last Man Standing as an example of what the game can be like though. That mode is a blast, they've seen it's incredibly popular and it should have made the demo.

    🤪

I'm still most anticipating futsal. I dont know why but I'm really looking forward to playing proper 5-a-side without the outrageous tricks. I think it's the 100's of hours I pumped into FIFA 98's indoor mode as a kid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,499 ✭✭✭Sabre0001

Video with all skill moves (shamelessly made by myself!). Little compilation at the end too.

Well lads I can confim my estimations to be true.

FIFA Street + The Lads + Cans = UNREAL Craic.

Watched the Ireland match at a mates gaf and after, 4 of us must have put in about 5 hours of winner stays on matches on the demo. Absolutely brilliant, and now I am buying this on day one.

None of the FIFA 12 crowd from here on my friends list seem to be playing this! Can't access the next level of world tour! Dose

Any psn peops I could add?

    Add me PSN:Redzer7.

Looks like a first day purchase for me also :)

Also if anyone is stuck on level 4 after playing in Amsterdam and Shangai go to the hit the streets match and pick your created team, seen a lot of people on the fifa forum not knowing how to progress so some of you might have the same problem :)

Skill moves are good, but linking them together is even better. My personal favourite is Fake Back into anything or a combination of the Ginga Moves (See 02:15 // 03:02).

    🤪

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,209 ✭✭✭Redzer7

Lads see in the futsal are the tricks and skills cut to a certain extent or are there as much as in the other game modes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,499 ✭✭✭Sabre0001

Pretty sure you have access to all tricks in all modes except World Tour - in World Tour you have to level up your player and unlock the ones that you like the most (by getting to the required level first of all and then having the points to spend on that move). Also have to dedicate points to your own abilities in attack, defence and attributes.

Ah right thanks for the reply, was hoping there wouldn't be as many in the futsal but still looking forward to it anyways :)

Yeah it's a tough one. Part of me would have preferred less skills as an option just so I could relive the classic indoor football days in FIFA Street.

Played a bit of futsal about 10 years ago with our club. Hopefully the physics are different because of the heavier smaller ball.

Hope it becomes more popular like it is in Barcelona and Brazil.
    Iniesta would be unbelievable.

what a money racket, not worth buying at all. its just like a mini game id compare it to zombies in cod tbh.

This is way more fun with mates than fifa tbh, some great modes to play about with.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,320 ✭✭✭v3ttel

Much better than the last FIFA Street, a lot less cartoony and gimmicky.

The refined gameplay & extra game modes add enough depth that I'll consider buying it.

Definitely good fun to play with a couple of mates.

Anyone pick it up yet? Cheapest place to get it?

    Edit:

€55 in gamestop, didn't see it in game?

Picked it up for €48 in hmv, traded in mw3 for €24.50 against it which was solid for an old game... haven't enjoyed it since bf3 came out! so happy days.

Edit 2: loving it so far, just started world tour. Impressed that ya can give your player three different Irish voices for shouting. Talk bout attention to detail, even if it sounds a bit funny.

Last man standing is great! goin to be a good game for few beers for sure!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,825 ✭✭✭Mikeyt086

I bought it in HMV aswell, havent touched the single player yet as I had the lads over, unreal craic so it is. Last Man Standing is such a good laugh.

Game was made for local multiplayer imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,499 ✭✭✭Sabre0001

Local multiplayer is great fun. Great variety of game modes and even better if people are going all out with tricks and style rather than simply trying to tap it home. Last Man Standing is a blast and really levels out the playing field.

I like the World Tour mode. Enjoying the different challenges and upgrading my players. At times it's tricky to keep track of who I have given particular skills to.

Online..........hmmmm.......It's like FIFA 12, but on a small pitch - plenty of sprinting down wings to cross. Game modes are limited. Would stick to Futsal, just so people can't go all guns blazing in defence to clear out your player.

    🤪

World tour is class. Upgrading is great but feels a bit tedious as I'm gaining levels nearly every match..I'm sure this will slow down at a later stage though. Really like the galway panna, Sligo 5 a side etc. Maybe I'm easily amused that it's just a name on the map, but for a FIFA game I think it's great :)

Played a lotta last man standing wit one of the lads last night..seriously addictive, online's pretty cool , the customization is nice, and isn't repetitive in the way you're not playing wit big clubs!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,310 ✭✭✭mossie

Bit disappointed you can't have offline leagues etc. apart from that it's good fun.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,263 ✭✭✭Shlippery

Really getting into it now, online tournaments are so frustratingly great.

I'm really enjoying seeing my team develop into something beautiful :')

So is the Futsal mode different than the other ones?(No tricks and that fake craic)

I could probably put up with the tricks and flicks modes as long as there's a decent 5 a side mode as well.

There are tricks, but not as much as other modes, purely because there is out of bounds in Futsal with kick-ins, corners and goal kicks. Futsal is the most football like, and as a result, the least craic with a few beers on board.

Sorry I can only give opinions of the game played with a few beers on board, with the weekend that was it in it's all Ive got to play of the game! :pac:

Well I don't have the means to play any friends having a few drinks, so the game would be solely played online.
And by the sounds of it, thats the games main advantage gone.

Not really worth it if you're just planning to play online imo. World Tour is good, but I find the online limited. Definitely best if playing locally - drinks or no drinks :)

I go on a little about limited online in this vid and a written review I did is here.

Great Review. I completely agree the online mode is a complete let down. I'd love to pick my favourite teams like liverpool, barcelona etc online and the fact this isn't an option in the online mode is quite unbelievable. There should even be a way of picking you're own all star team instead of just a create you're own squad of nobody's. I have found EA to be extremely lazy on this part of the game just like they have been with fifa 12 and not fixing the servers as fifa street is just as bad for disconnecting.

I'll still enjoy the offline mode for a few weeks but online mode just makes me angry, i cant seem to win a game and anyone i play has a much stronger team than me. I've won 2 games out of about 20 and was close to putting my head through the tv last night

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,310 ✭✭✭mossie

Have had this a few days now and it's fun but I don't think it justifies €50. It 's a bit limited really, probably should be an add on for regular FIFA. Having said that it's more fun than FIFA12 just now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,530 ✭✭✭Naked Lepper

great craic playing this with friends, especially those who suck at fifa.. they can pick it up easier and score a few goals easily enough
its way more arcadey than normal fifa and this is what makes it a good light hearted game, dont expect the same tension from a match as you get in fifa 12, ill play both.. fifa 12 online for when im on my own and if i have a few people over or am at a friends house ill bring this game to play while having a few beers or whatever

pricey at 55 euro, i think 35-40 would be a fair price
