    Hi Guys,

I never even got to have the battle about the bike staying in the house. That was over before it ever started. I keep my bike in a barna shed and during the winter months it can get damp out there. I don't use the bike everyday, I'd maybe go out 3 or 4 times a week so it could be sitting in the shed for a day or two in the damp conditions before I take it out. Would it be recommended to cover the bike with something in the shed and if so would you have any suggestions.

Put the wife in the shed and keep the bike nice and cosy inside!

im in the same situation as you , i use a cover alright also wipe down the bike with a dry towel after spins and make sure i give all the steel components such as bolts etc a bit of oil every few weeks.

Are you mad that's where I keep the receipts for all the bike stuff :o I'd be in the shed if she found them.

Yeah I wipe it down after every spin and make sure it is dry. I never thought of putting oil on the bolts etc, I'll do that thanks. What do you cover it with, I've seen conflicting opinions on this. Some say don't cover it because if the damp gets under the cover the bike has no air and wont dry. Some say nearly vac pack it.

Unless there's free water (shed leaking) I wouldnt worry, my bike has been in similar conditions for years. It helps if there is some ventilation, which there is almost certain to be as shed doors are never tight and the cladding lets air through. When my bike was new I used to polish the frame with car polish to waterproof it to some extent, but I haven't done that in years, no signs yet of abnormal deterioration

Why do people do this? Cars sit out in rain, sun, wind, sleet, hail, snow, etc. Bike frames are surely as capable. Polish is for shine and getting scratches out. Also for men who need to spend time with their pride and joy. Waste of time if you ask me. Moving parts yes, everything else just wipe the dirt off!
