105K 4.0D ... not sure of bhp, sales guy said 300+? It is bloody gorgeous from the front. It seems a sleeker and maybe even smaller car than the E63. Years ago I'd be saying where can I sign up, today I walked away ...:D

diesel performance cars make baby jesus cry

This is nicer and it's specced up higher than yours at 104k

It parks its self and that's a win

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,661 ✭✭✭Voodoomelon

^^ Because they're the same class of car?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,520 ✭✭✭Tea 1000

It's not a 4.0d, it's the same 3 litre twin turbo as the 535d. Nice car though, and MUCH nicer than a poxy A6!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,575 ✭✭✭166man

I'd spend 30-40k on a 335d and the rest on a large barge V12 and petrol/tax/insurance. Nicer way to spend 105k me thinks.

Not my car but the A6 is no comparison for it. I think most people into a car at that price would be able to park themselves though.

@Tea 1000 - was wondering why I couldn't find the bhp of the "4.0 diesel"! Not sure if it's tuned since the E60 535 - if not, I think it's 286 bhp, still plenty though. It hits 0-100 in 5.5 anyway.

If I was spending 105k I'd want a petrol engine.
Diesel is for trucks and tractors :D

I wish they would go back to badging cars by engine size, bmw audi and merc are the biggest offenders it seems.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,468 ✭✭✭ofcork

Thats only a couple, all the amg63 are actually 6.2 and soon to be 5.5 although in the states they do badge them right, the s500 is s550 in the us because it is a 5.5.

I'd rather spend €70,000 on this, and do something with the change. Less depreciation over 2-3 years too.

Why spend €105,000 on one new fairly normal (Although admittedly pretty) car when you can add €10,000 to your budget and get these two?

    http://www.carzone.ie/search/Maserati/Quattroporte/Automati/131912889118149/advert?channel=CARS
    http://www.carzone.ie/search/Audi/R8/4.2-FSI-/201041199896615/advert?channel=CARS

Two fairly recent supercars for the price of one brand new luxury car. The Quattroporte for the weekdays and the R8 for the weekends. Much less depreciation than a new BMW as well.

    ??

Surely a revvy petrol is better suited to the smaller car and diesel(auto) to the barge?

doesn't look special inside or out to justify the price tag

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,423 ✭✭✭pburns

Ye'd want to be ****tin' money, financially illiterate or seriously minted to even consider dropping >100k on that yoke brand new.

Don't think I could spend 100k on a car but it would have to be something pretty special - a Ferrari, top-end 911 or similar (most definitely used). But a diesel BMW shows a distinct lack of imagination.

Can we compare new cars to this 640d?

Completely stupid comparing new and used.

My tuned Mazda 3 MPS would probably beat that BMW, but speed is only one factor.

You can get a Nissan 370Z for 57k.

    2009_nissan_370z_19.jpg

Which will leave the alot more expensive BMW for dead past 120km/h.

It has 20bhp more, 250kg lighter and redlines @7500rpm.

For 104k you could probably get the 500bhp Monster GT-R

No one said anything about the cars having to be new... It's just the best car(s) you can get for €105,000.

If I had 100k to spend I'd buy petrol.
If you drive a diesel it implies that you're either careful with your money, or you're hard up and can't afford the fuel (like meself).
So if you spend a LOT of money on a car that's designed to impress and then send out the signal that you're watching the pennies, it doesn't impress.
IF I ever had a 4 litre Vsomething car, you can be bloody sure it'll be petrol, otherwise I stick with my diesel Focus.
It's like going into the most expensive restaurant in town and ordering a stew. Or bacon and cabbage.

The merc cls is a good alternative to the bmw and costs around 80k for the 350 petrol or the 320 diesel.

A 00 M5 with a twin turbo kit slapped on for 20k, would scare a Veyron.

    Surely that's the best;)

The 535d is now 299bhp in the F10. The 640d is 313bhp, and claims 51.4mpg... I'm not sure if the 535d will be 313bhp soon or not.

the new 6 series is probably imo the nicest car BMW has come out with in a while....in white its a good looker

I like the idea of that Quattrporte. Add this Forester in the mix with the R8 and you have yourself covered for the winter aswell

Why would you get a 370z when you could get a GT-R which will leave everything for dead at all speeds, and for less money than the BMW.

    I think the GT-R is 130k here?

    I could be wrong.

When I saw the thread title I knew what this was going to be about before I opened it. I saw that car this morning in Keanes- went over for a gander and nearly collapsed when I saw the price-

I can't imagine there will be a queue of people looking to buy... would a dealer only order something that price for a confirmed sale?

If I had 105k to spend I wouldn't be spending it like that.

New 6 series looks great with the M-kit, awkward and boring without it. Same goes for most new BMW's IMO

I'd buy the 728 in the bangernomics thread, rebuild the engine and still have 95k to spend. :3

I doubt it would leave it "for dead", it might be marginally faster at best. But seriously, you are comparing a long range GT Diesel to a Petrol sporty GT-Hybridy (modern Zs arent neither GTs or sports cars IMO) thing? The 370z is great, and a 104k "diesel" to save fuel costs is retarded, but thats still a meaningless comparison.

    Or, even better.

You can get a flight to the US for ~3-500, you can buy a NISMO 370z there for $40k (€28.8k) , petrol at ~$3.50/gal, better roads... spend the rest staying there as long as possible :D

If I spent 100k on a 6 series and pulled up beside someone in a (2003'ish) 645, who's just spent about 15k on it.... I'd be fuking livid.

My next 'realistic' dream car is a 6 series (a 645), so it's not like I don't like them - I love them [and they're quite cheap at the moment].

I know the one in the OP is the new shape and so on, but if I'm spending 100k I would want a little but of exclusivity... which diesel 6 series aren't.
So 100k on a BMW would mean I would only be buying an M3, M5, M6 etc...

But if I had 100k I would definitely not be buying a BMW (and I own one currently).
