You don't say what for, but yes. Although if it's a secondary machine, I'd recommend the Air as well. Small and light and perfect for carrying to college.

Its general use. My daughter has been saving up for awhile to replace an old broken macbook.and it will be her main computer.I dont want to make a mistake on this. I think i am right but i value your opinion.:)

It would be perfect, Macs are great performers! screen size just depends on personal preference really, my bro got one recently and the new processors are lightening speed!

Don't forget the student discount available too!!

Screen size doesn't depend on personal preference, it also depends on what you use the computer for. If it's for graphic design, I'd recommend going 15.5". If it's not, but the user will be doing fairly processor-intensive stuff (or uses lots of USB/Firewire devices), then the MBP gives extra power/options. If it's just a computer to do the same things the user could do with the older MacBook, then a new MacBook would probably be enough.

MacBooks and MB Pros are heavy, so, yes a MB Air would be a good option, but I think they're only for highly-paid yuppies.

Anyway, the advantage of going 13" MB Pro is with the extra speed, etc., it'll last longer given the higher specs. But whether it's the best value-for-money for basic college/personal use is another thing.
