    Hi,

Could anyone recommend a good, honest mercedes mechanic close to the Maynooth/Leixlip area?

    Thanks

Just to give you more details on the issue:

I'm getting 2 error messages on the console in my MB e200 2003 (w211):
    1. "Malfunction Electrical Consumers Switched Off" - comes and goes, when the message is on the display all inside lights, vents, cigar lighter/power socket are off (radio works :) )
    2. "ESP Defective, Visit MB Workshop"

On the top of that I started having some problems starting the engine: sometimes when I turn the ignition key to start the car all the lights go on on the console but the engine does not react at all. I have to switch it off and then it works when I try again.
Some other time after driving, when I park my car and switch the engine off, it switches everything off (no radio, no electric locks - unable to lock the car, etc.) and it remains like this for the next 5min., when it kind of "resets" itself and starts working again. The clock goes crazy and starts resetting itself as well in that moment.

    Anyone has an idea?

    @msg11:

I think that spiggotpaddy suggested a "honest mechanic" to be an oxymoron.

I prefer to believe that there are some honest guys out there willing to help and not to only rip everyone off...

Nevertheless, guys stick to the subject please.

He's not near Leixlip or Maynooth but I have used him for the last two years and find him very good.

He came recommended to me by my boss.

Mrecedes Diagnostics Ltd on the Kylemore Road- I think it's called Motor City and he is round the back behind Atlas Tyres.

    Wesley is the contact name.

I must emphasise that I have no direct connection with them other than being very satisfied with their service.

I bought an 08 W211 (E200K) in May and while the owner's manual suggests that there are two batteries, I could only find one.

Auxiliary battery is underneath the cabin filter housing at base of windscreen. MB will want a fortune off you for a replacement battery but if you do some research with the Varta number off the battery you will find that it is actually a motorbike battery available in any good motor factor for a fraction of the price.

The ESP problem is quite likely to be the Service Brake Controller. MB are replacing them FOC in most cases even on older 211s so it is worth a try. Get it diagnosed by an independent or specialist first though to avoid paying main dealer diagnostic charges.

    Hi Again,

I called a mechanic who noticed that the steering wheel does a "click" when turned (it happens when turning in both directions). The guy said that this may be causing the ESP error, as some wheel position sensors do not recognise the correct position of the wheel - thus not letting the ESP to work properly.

Last weekend when I closed the trunk and started the engine I noticed 3 error messages on the console: 3rd brake light and both license plate lamps are gone. Also the trunk can't be opened with the remote (have to use the key) :( This seems to be a quite common issue with a simple solution well described on the MB forum:
    http://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w211/314638-no-power-trunk-3rd-brake-light-license-plate-lamps.html
I will give it a try today and hope that this is what was causing the "electrical consumers" error message to pop up...

I will let you know the outcome.

    I also have another issue:
When accellerating fast, in the moment when the 1st gear changes to the 2nd one, I can feel a strong jerk. On the top of that, when I drive for a longer time (>30min) I can feel those jerks (just a lot smaller) all the time. The mechanic suggested flushing the gearbox fluid for the price of 400€. What do you think about it?

Thanks for all your replies so far :)

I fixed the plate lamp / 3rd brake errors. The trunk now opens as well :)
It was exactly as described on the MB forum - a small brown cable pinched - 20 minutes to fix.

The "electrical consumers" message is still poping up :(

So what o you think should be a fair price for flushing the gearbox liquid?
