Huzzah the revival of Beavis and Butt-head starts this Thursday night on MTV!

The first 2 episodes are set to air at 10pm. So thoughts? Will it live up to previous fans expectations? Will it gather a new young audience? Is 14 years between 2 seasons too long for success?

I for one cannot wait for the new series. It still looks and sounds as great as it used to be. It's a very much love or hate show though, so if it wants renewed success they have to be with 'it'.

Well the clips in that made me laugh anyway! Someone said on a previous Beavis and Butthead thread that Beavis' voice had changed, which worried me, but from that clip it sounds pretty good to me. Really lookin forward to thursday night now...

I heard they're not making fun of music videos anymore..

.. but they're taking swipes at those terrible MTV shows like 'Teen Mom', 'Jersey Shore' etc.

    Looking forward to it regardless!

EDIT: Yeah, the last minute and a half of the clip in the OP seems to confirm it!

Yeah, girl on Jersey Shore - "I'm a whore, hello!" . Reply from Butthead - "thats how she answers the phone" :D

I can't find it on MTV either today or tomorrow (I assume it premiere's in US)

What's the story here - I can't find anything about it on UKTV at all

Loved Beavis and butthead. Really surprised MTV are making this. Could it be that they're realising that they as a Channel are fairly irrelevant to their current target generation and need to try and court the 20 and 30 something's back into viewing? Anyway I'm delighted.

It wasn't a bad episode at all. The first half was far better than the second half.
Good pisstakes of Twilight and Jersey Shore.

Grandma J'Woww, where did you get syphilis? :)

They're still making fun of music videos. New episode had MGMT along with various others.

Also, it was really good. Can't really think of any other show that was brought back like this and stayed good. Some sort of anomaly here

wont have the same impact , belonged to a time when MTV was still relartivley fresh and the shows main theme involved two loser teens spending all day long revelling in watching music videos , what exactly is novel about that in 2011 , you can watch videos on your i phone on the bus

I fear it may be of its time as well.
Most of the stuff Mike Judge does is great though.

its for people who remember the M in MTV stood for Music :pac: do they even show music videos anymore?

They got rid of the Music Television that used to sit under the MTV. Maybe they finally saw the irony of the logo.

I thought it was good fun too..

.. not a show, even when I was younger, than I laughed heartily at but gave me a few smirks and giggles.

    Fair play MTV.

I really enjoyed it - loved it when I was younger and glad it's back. Thought the MGMT stuff about the baby was pretty funny "you're one now, it's time you start pulling your weight around here."

Also the Jersey Shore stuff was fantastic.

Sadly they now appear to be intelligent TV critics. As funny as ever, but TV has gone south.

    Viva B & B, and "I was not crying".

The 'post-biting' reveal was priceless here. And they got the mannerisms of Twilight characters down to a tee. Second episode was weaker, but the final segment was somewhat of a pay-off.

Probably the most music videos they've shown on MTV in the guts of a decade too. A little perplexed by the low-res animation during the clip bits though. I know it's cost saving, but stuck out like a saw thumb.

I thought it was intentional - as a little nod to the old series (with the 4:3 resolution and all)..

    .. could be wrong though!

Maybe (4:3 seemed purposeful), but there were brief 'HD' (ahem) animated shots during the clips too, which merely emphasised the peculiarity!

We'll see next week: can work as a nod, but more distracting than nostalgic IMO! Mixed media ahoy. But that could just be the film student in me :P

MTV was split, there is now MTV and MTV Music.

The type of people who still watch MTV wouldn't understand the problem with the title 'MTV Music' ;)

Yes. They also got removed from the music section on Sky.

The new episode(s) are out. The tutorial on how to work in a call centre is spot on.
Pity I forgot to loot the dump I got fired out of.

I think Mike Judge has always been very underrated with his animated shows, KOTH was excellent, so it's no surprise that he's managed to revive B&B successfully.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,577 ✭✭✭lord lucan

2nd episode was much better than the first imo. The commentary on the Katy Perry video was very much reminiscent of the old B&B.:)

Woah. It's like the series never went away or, better yet, like the series was cryogenically frozen at the end of it's original run and just now defrosted.

"So she's gonna call her grandkids 'b*tch'?!"

"You're the best grandma ever Grandma Jwoww!"

I think Mike Judge has always been very underrated with his animated shows, KOTH was excellent

King of the Hill, in opinion, is second only to the Simpsons as the finest animated comedy ever made. KOTH was able to run for 13 series without any real drop off in quality. In fact, I think it got better as it went on. The Simpsons couldn't do that, nor could South Park and others haven't had near that kind of longevity. It's a program that stayed relatively grounded and was all the better for it. Actually, come to think of it, I'd put it right alongside the Simpsons on balance because that program has been dreck for the last 13 years or so. Thank God it had ten unrivaled seasons.
