I go by the C.C.A or cold cranking amps, the higher the better or the more power the battery has to turn over the engine. What is it for?

Anyone use a desulphator to revitalise old batteries? They are less than Eur 50 if you're prepared to buy from the uk. Supposed to bring a battery 100% new when left on for 12 hours. Anyone got experience of using one? Would like to be sure before I buy.

Yeah i got one early this year from courtistown marine or someting like that. Reconditioned an old dead tractor battery back in febuary and put it in the tractor and well its still starting it to this day. This battery wouldn't even hold a charge over night before i reconditioned it so it deffinately works.

the correct battery for this is Type 663 - the spec is 680 cca ( cold cranking amps) and 110AH. a 390 alternator puts out 70 amps on a good day. a cheap battery will break you heart. a good make would be Varta. Exide are gone to crap. Good gauge of a battery is weight. 663 should weigh 30kg. ive seen some weigh 17.5 kg.

Bloody 390s don't seem to be too fond of starting in cold weather. I put a new battery into mine recently; got sick of jumping the old one. Was probably there since we got it 6+ years ago. Check the leads also, my ones showing signs of perish.

ours is not to bad to start ....could not get it started last winter though :D was stuck for a battery that time and our local man had only a new battery for a 165, we put it into the 390, it gives a real dead sound no power when ya turn the key but i always goes after a few turns :D

another thing. put a relay kit on the 390, they're cheap.
the way the power goes on a 390 it send the power around the whole loom before it get to the ballery causing a voltage drop . it fits on the ignition switch. 2 mins work. solves a lo of problems.

did you buy the kit or the fully made ,Also was it the combined charger or the straight desulpheriser and did you have to get crocodile clips. Thanks in advance

Well the battery was knakered when i reconditioned it. It had been in the tractor for 2 years and was failing to start her so i changed it. Then i was using it to jump start the car a few months later, charing it up over night and using it the next day till in the end it wouldn't start the car. Then i got the reconditioner put it on it for a few days and put it into the tractor again and that was last febuary and its in her since. Even worked fine during the recent cold spell so im convinced that reconditioning works.

I got the fully made up one. It didn't have clips but i just use the crocidile clips on the charger to attach it.

    Hope that all helps.
