Sarkozy tells Cameron to shut it

Comments

He was wrong. Cameron is talking sense and this crisis is affecting the UK as much as any of the Eurozone members. Funny that most Irish people would prefer to see a UK minister shot down and be lackeys to France and Germany. If they were having meetings in Downing Street about selling off our state assets and closing hospitals here how would you feel? Yet that's what we meekly allow Merkel and Sarkozy to do - and make no mistake, they are calling the shots here.

Interesting times ahead, although I wouldnt be a fan of Sarkozy I think he was right in this instance to tell Cameron to shut it since they dont even use the euro and have been quick to dish out advice and criticise it

But at the same time the Brits are contributing to the various Euro bailouts and rescue mechanisms. OK, they have a vested interest in that they are heavily exposed through their banks, but the bottom line is that they do have 'skin in the game' so are entitled to participate in the debate, albeit not as a member nation.

There is a little merit in Sarkozy's comments, but I think it is primarily a soundbite to try to gain political points at home

Cameron at the same time has to deal with uk taxpayers pissed off that they have to contribute to a euro problem. He has to play politics too

Sarkozy is full of schite to start with anyway. Can't stand the sight of the slimey sod.
By the looks of things either can the public in France and he's out at the next election.

Germany or more so Merkel, meanwhile it appears if the one really causing (certainly not helping) the current Euro crises or not helping it. A horrible woman that even the Italian PM openly insulted some time back.

Ummm, they are spending billions of euros to bail us out, so I don't think it's wrong of them to have an interest in our recovery. Of course, we can tell them to hit the road, and take their billions with them, but then we'd have to announce €18 billion in cuts in an emergency budget tomorrow.

The IMF and the EU aren't here against our will- we asked for the bailout. People can moan and bitch about them all they like, but the fact remains that they responded to our call for assistance.

Ah hold now Biggins. One can't judge a person based on whether the sexist buffoon Burlesconi has inuslted them or not! Why's Merkel so horrible in your opinion?

Again being honest, what Burlesconi says I double check always.
I don't know of many are aware of it but Merkel is currently playing political games of her own - in fact fighting for survival at home too.
Such is her antics and unwillingness to address home issues and others beyond it, she only recourse as of late has been to bully/browbeat, stall and halt others, in order to get her way.
...And the net result is that she's not coming across nice at all in character.

Have a read here for example: http://www.independent.ie/business/european/germany-all-set-to-kick-the-can-down-the-road-yet-again-2914683.html

    Short quote:
What Europe needs is leadership and a sense of urgency.
Instead, its most important politician -- German Chancellor Merkel -- is the procrastinator in chief.

The only funny thing about the Eurozone crisis is watching the pretense of friendship between assorted leaders fall so publicly apart.

Upon initial reading of the article, I have to say, whilst I have no love for the Euro, and I think Sarkozy is an idiot, I agreed with him telling Cameron to butt out... Reading some of the comments here has changed my mind and whilst I agree with most of what you have said... The above, in bold statement is utter generalising crap...

Edit: Now the Irish government on the other hand could be accused of being lackeys I think...

I think David Cameron have every right to have a say!!!

The UK may not use the euro but they have pump a lot of money into the euro helping other countries with their huge debt so I don't know where Sarkozy get off telling David Cameron to shut it!

    I can't believe I'm defending the English!

I think Cameron should insist on having Boris Johnson locked in a room with all leaders. Sure way to get a quick resolution just to get the hell out of there.

greece was the only country to ask ahead of being pushed into it
