What are mobile midband providers doing about congestion?

They seem to be doing nothing about this, or is it the fact they can't do anything about it?

Three for example (my provider) admit serious issues regarding congestion in my area but months and years in fact go by without them doing a single thing about it. When I started with them the service was good, peak time speeds of around 1Mbps and off peak speeds of around 4Mbps...

Now though congestion starts at 12noon and lasts all of 12-14hrs depending on consumer demand. Between the hours of 5pm-10pm I receive 0.02Mbps

Three promote their broadband pro 60GB package to be used for "downloading" "streaming" and "gaming" but none of what they market is achievable for many hours per day. Ping for example goes above 200ms so gaming is out of the question.

This is my experience in my area and I'm not saying it's the same all over the country but it seems to be that certain area's are knowingly being neglected.

Have any of you faced similar issues and had them resolved by network upgrades? The way I see it these network upgrades never happen and it's a ploy to string paying customers along and keep them in contract.

Any info on this is appreciated, thanks.

Recruited more staff for their Mumbai Call Centre?

Then if they lose customers they'll reduce the prices, increase the download allowances, mount an advertising campaign and pretend everything is OK.

Congestion is a cold hard fact of a 3G network, and there SFA they can do about it. Get rid of customers is about the only thing that will make it better.

Yes I suppose that's the only way. I find it amusing though that these providers will do anything to keep a customer in contract, just keep paying your bill and we'll keep giving you that 0.02Mbps speed.

I purchased a new package 3 days ago via the Mumbai sales team. Used it for a couple of days to see how it was and it's gotten far worse since I was last with them...

Spent an hour on the phone today trying to cancel and they refused. I said I am entitled to a 7 day cooling off period under Irish consumer law but they still refused. I suppose I have to go down the route of comreg tomorrow to try and get it resolved.

Just to be sure...I am able to cancel within 7 days of purchase, right? I thought that was the case. Don't three have to abide by Irish law when operating in Ireland?

    Thanks for any suggestions.

Three Ireland are an Irish registered company so yes they abide (or should do) by Irish law

If you purchased over the Internet or phone then yes. However, cooling off periods have conditions attached.

Start a Thread in the Three forum if you wish to discuss your right to cancel.
