HTPC and Cams for Sky FTV card

Can anyone tell me, if I do go down the road of a HTPC (currently shopping around for parts), will I be able to use my Sky FTV card?

I take it there are USB or Com card readers but what about the software decoding and integration with any given media platform / player?

    Is this requirement possible?
Does it limit me to certain OS or HTPC software? if so which?

    Many thanks

    Legally, no.

This is a violation of your Sky Ts & Cs.

Anyway, the only services that a Sky FTV card gives you access to which are not free-to-air anyway, according to the ever-reliable wikipedia, are:

Channel 5 HD, 5USA, 5USA+1, (actually and then I got bored. None of these channels are remotely interesting). Read the list here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freesat_from_Sky

All the main Freesat services (BBCx, ITVx, Channel 4, Film4 etc) are not encrypted and you don't need a card/cam to receive.

You can use a DVBlink setup with a Dreambox to decrypt your sky sub to get teh full sky lineup on your windows media center HTPC.

    Dunno about linux Media centers

    Hi and thanks.

I'm well aware of what extra channels the card gives me and I currently use it in a dedicated STB running oscam.

My question is, can I use it in a HTPC setup and what does that entail wrt kit/software/os/htpc platform?

    Thanks again.

you don't need a dreambox at all because I just did it. I already had it running with the freesat and saorview but the kids wanted the extra channels.

However this link should get you started with using your own sky subscription but feel free to drop me a pm if you need a hand. The major difference between his setup and mine is I used the hadu plugin and cardsharing.

I currently have a windows 7 htpc in the attic and 2 xboxes which stream all my channels.
