Hey, looking for a bit of info on upgrading to sky+ without going through sky to do it.

As far as I know, I can buy a sky+ box install it and phone sky to pair the box and card. Then I'll get pause rewind and record the station I'm on is that right?

Then for recording another chan the quad something or other needs to be changed on the dish with another cable running into it?

What exactly needs to be changed on the dish and what is is the extra cable you need? Would it be easy and cheap to do yourself or would I be as well paying someone to do it?

The dish is just at the side of the house so it wouldn't be much hassle doing a diy job if it was simple.

One more thing, if I bought a sky+ hd box that would work the same without upgrading to hd yeah?

    Thanks!

Have a read through this thread first and have it all done for you plus you get a warranty.

^^^^^^^^^ This would be the best way ^^^^^^

first off you do not need a phone line.
A +box or Hd box will work , you just have to change the lnb on the satellite dish to a quad, (if you want full access to the capabilities)

run another cable from the lnb to the box, plug it in and ring sky to pair the card, to enable the record function.
( you HAVE to have a sub with sky to avail of this.)

Hd box would be your best bet (assuming you have a hd tv)

see the thread about recording ch five etc..

    a sub?

I was going to call sky and try that, but the parents won't do it and it's in their name, plus we cant get any upc where we are, so dunno if they check the availability of upc when you call saying you're thinking of changing over?

Used to have a friend working in sky years ago, call up every couple of months asking for them and never had to pay a penny for years :pac:

Sky won't check if you can get UPC in your area, tell 'em a UPC rep called and offered you a free 'recording box' if you switched.

If it's in your folks name get them to call Sky.As the saying goes "If you don't ask,you don't get".
