No receipts

I am filing my tax return, and I can claim back electricity, gas etc.

I don't have the receipts going back that far though. I can make an educated guess based on current bills.

Is that ok? Or am I playing with fire?

You need to keep receipts / invoices.

Ask your utility companies for copies and/or a statement.

Log on to the relevant website, register and you should be able to print off the 1st page of your bills for ESB etc.

I've tried that but the bills only go back so far.

Obviously I'm keeping better track of my bills now, but I'm just wondering if a educated guess (on the conservative side) would be good enough for this tax return.

I will then get on to the gas/electricty company about older bills.
