Key wont go into lock

Hi I just had to go somewhere and my key wouldn't go into either my driver side door or the passenger side door, it would open the boot though. I haven't drove since yesterday and it was fine then. Could someone have put something in the lock? A few days ago some nacker kicked the wing mirror off and I haven't found out who done it yet. Where would I have to go to get this fixed and how much would I be looking at?

I would say some scum bag put superglue into them considering they kicked your mirror off.

If they have done I'd say you'll be looking at putting new locks in. Don't take me at my work but cant see how you would super glue out of them if they have put it into your locks.

Superglue is not always that good at sticking metal to metal. If it's your typical scumbag, he probably won't have the knowledge to really **** it up for you.

It might be worth your while spraying some oil into the lock and gently tapping the key in with a hammer. If it's standard superglue, it should give way after a few taps. You may still end up having to change the locks, but at least you'll have access to your car in the meantime.

If you think it is vandalism, probably also worth reporting to the Gardaí and see if your insurance will cover it. Replacement cylinders are not cheap - iirc a matched cylinder can be over €100 depending on model.

thats a utter scum thing to do, you wont get replacement locks in a car for 100 quid, a key alone for my mondeo was about 100eu and that was without bleep bleep buttons.

Last time I enquired about a cylinder for my Passat, it was around €100 to get one made up to match my existing keys. Bear in mind, it's not usually necessary to replace the entire lock mechanism, only the cylinder the key operates.

Also, replacement of a key is often expensive because the dealer has to use diagnostics to match it to the immobiliser, and the cutting of security keys is not so cheap. FWIW a lot of the better locksmiths can do car keys, including immo matching, for much less than dealers.
