2003 MG ZR Whats it worth?

My mam wants to sell her car (shes recently bought a diesel octavia ) and the MG needs to go.

    its a 2003 5 door with 92,000 miles
    test until 01/2013
    tax until 12/2011
it had a new timing kit, front brake pads and 2 new tyres fitted at 90,000 miles
it had the upgraded head gasket kit fitted a few years back
it really is in good condition.

i know these cars don't seem to be worth much, we were going to put it on donedeal for 2000 euro, does that seem unrealistic? we dont want to price it straight out of the market.

    cheers for any advice guys!

SHould get interest at that I'd expect.

Maybe pitch it at €2250? That way gives some money off for the buyer if you try and get €2k or as near to it?

thought i'd stick the neck out at that price, can always come down in price if it doesn't sell.

someone must have been browsing the homepage because a chap just called, want to come see it this evening. whether he shows or not is a different story i suppose.

I'd hold out for €1800 minimum tbh, the only potential -ive is the mileage but if the gearbox isn't noisy than that's not a -ive.

where in the advert does it give the impression of any lady owners?

i have no idea who owned it before we did, we bought it from a dealership, but according to the logbook we are the second owner.

admittedly my name is at the bottom of the advert, but i feel i'm in a better position to take calls/ answer questions on it than my mother.

    Sorry, misread the ad :o

    Must go back to bed....

Wow, you weren't joking when you said it was in good condition!

I had a red 3 door 2002 ZR a few years back and I still kinda miss it. I did well on it though, bought it for €8950 and sold it a year later for €8000 :D

I'd do as 166man said and pitch it at €2250. It's a car that's in very good condition with all the servicing done and will last the buyer a good long while before anything needs to be done to it again.

Whoever buys it is getting a bargain at €2000.

    Best of luck with it!!

Try that for a week, but if it doesn't sell you'll know why.

My sister was looking at these and she had a choice of 2 04's and they were around the €1,600 mark IIRC.

Seems a genuine car though, and genuine cars tend to make the bucks.

cheers for the feedback lads :D the car is in good shape for its age i reckon, it does have a few car park dings and a bit of wear on the driver seat, nothing too major though.

i think i'l keep this thread updated until the sale, just for the sake of curiosity.

i was writing a text today and accidentally hung up on a private number calling me, which i can only asume was about the car.

i had 2 texts about the car also :

one offering a swap for a "2007 kxf 450" which google tells me is some kind of motorbike.

another reading - "would you take 1150 for the MG?"

i'm not one to write no swaps and no timewasters at the bottom of the advert but for **** sake, you want me to halve the asking price without you even coming to view the car? seriously?

LOL - would have been worse on adverts :D

Me - car for sale asking 2200

    Buyer - offer 2000 cash

    Me - offer accepted

Buyer - sorry only have 1500 cash

The ZR should sell for very close to your asking price, but I think if someone stuck 2k into my hand, I would accept it...

its madness alright, i've sold a few cars on donedeal though and despite the fact you get the most messers, i reckon your advert still gets the best exposure too.

its probably foolish to broadcast this to the whole world wide web, but i'd like 2150 for the car but the first person to turn up at my house with any kind of serious offer for the car will get it, 16-700 would probably take it away.

the MG are decent sellers, aslong as you have a bit of service history that shows the head gaskit was done and/or upgraded to the newer better type.

I bought an 02 one a year or so ago as a run around, cleaned it up and 3 months later sold it for 2150, making a tidy little profit on it.

I think 1,600 is a good price for that thing, My cousin for love nor money could not get rid of her 04' ZR for decent money, she got less then 2k for it only a few weeks back and it was pretty clean to.

    05 = €2,750

Imo the pre facelift (same for the ZT) looks way better.

another clean looking Z there, i always loved them in that blue :). i have to ask though is it a genuine ZR, i just notice it has the black vinyls on the B pillars between the windows which the 25's had as standard but were never fitted to the Z series cars.

must admit the facelift interiors are shocking, even more cheap feeling, though i do like the facelift exterior wise.

admittedly, its an express van, not a ZR but still, 04 diesel, 2500, these are reasonably good cars yet totally worthless. i remember seeing a 04 or 05 ZR diesel for sale in dublin in good nick for around 2500 recently too.

There's a Streetwise diesel for sale at the mo..

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2572163

    Full?id=8114538

Weird fecking things, a lad on a Rover site had one on 17s that was lowered, looked almost decent.

thats the one james, it was a streetwise not a ZR i was thinking of.

04 reg, 2.0 diesel, looks very fresh and only 2450, if i had the cash i'd snap it up! i dont buy into the whole "BMW engine" criac but as far as i know the 2.0 diesels are fairly trouble free?

your man goes by the name of "BennyDub" i think, 'the original slammed streetwise' to be fair it does look well.

friend of mine bought one with 40,000 km on it a '05 clean as a whistle for 2000 two months ago.

I never understood the purpose of the 'streetwise'. What was the significance of having one of those over a normal Rover 25? It looks really silly as though it's trying to pull off a 4WD look.
