No matter what way I use the clutch in this car its rarely smooth. 1th to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd are very bouncy and never smooth, sometimes it like their is friction and it shudders at low revs when changing.

Is this a fault on the car, anyone else have this problem? Would a software upgrade fix it?

Its been covered on here a few times, There is a software update that is supposed to help but it may also be a worn dual mass flywheel.

Used to be the same on my own. rev more and use the clutch authoritatively and you'll be fine.

The software patch just raises the move off revs (not the idling revs), and can bring with it its own problems.

Yeah, sounds like a failing DMF

Same sort of symptoms as here

Not a failing dmf, just aomething 320ds do when driven a certain way -its well documented.

There is permanent fix meant to be coming out from BMW next month for this problem some people have also removed the clutch delay valve which resolved the problem in their cars

Sorry no link, I've a x1 with the issue (on its fourth clutch and second flywheel) and have been told by the dealership that BMW will have a fix out next month at which point my car will be taken back in to have the fix applied to it.

Just to follow up on this the garage rang this morning to let me know that they have a modified clutch to fix the problem so fingers and toes crossed that it does
