Brian Lenihan - An Irish Patriot? The Sunday Independant thinks so.

The mind boggles. That man and his party ruined the country. Through a nauseating combination of corruption, greed and immense incompetence we have been brought to our knees.

Where this man still alive he would, correctly imo, be vilified. Like Bertie.

In the wake of his death it seemed some people were of the opinion that because he had cancer when he was smashing the country on to the rocks that made it ok, that made him a hero.

Now obviously I haven't read the article yet but I think the ad says enough, nauseating. As Sand said over on the politics forum its like a pisstake.

Lenihan is an Irish patriot? When I think of Irish patriots I think of great people like Wolfe Tone, Constance Markievicz, James Connolly, Padraig Pearse, Robert Emmet, Tom Barry, Kevin Barry etc etc. Those kind of people. While they had their flaws they put the Irish people first and foremost, not their party, not the golden circles, not the developers and not the banks.

In my book, while Lenihan may have been a good man on a personal level, to his family and friends, he was a disaster for Ireland. I don't think he was anything approaching an Irish Patriot. The Sindo labeling him such is an insult to the countless men and women who truly deserve that title, true Irish patriots.

While some may think it is bad form to speak ill of the dead, in this case I beg to differ when his life and contribution to Ireland are so grossly misrepresented.

I can only hope that the Sindo are once again grossly out of touch with the feeling and sentiment of the Irish people. However with the closet FFer as favorite for the presidency and attempts like this to use Lenihans death to re-brand and rehabilitate FF perhaps its not beyond the realm of possibility that FF will be back in power sooner than I had thought.

So AH, do you think he was an Irish patriot?

The fact that anyone listens to what the Sindo has to say is an insult to right thinking people everywhere.

The media had no problem hurling abuse at him when he was alive but now he has passed away he's become a patriot? Makes no sense to me.

Saw that ad and I was disgusted by it.

The man is dead - it is, of course, sad that he has passed on. But to exploit this and start calling him a patriot is downright disrespectful to all of us.

He wasn't a patriot - he was a ****ing incompetent idiot. Why oh why would a trained barrister/lawyer, who knew nothing about finance, accept the post of Finance Minister?

I'm sorry to his family for their terrible loss, I really am, but I'm sick of him getting away with no blame just because he has passed on.

Same paper probably making him out to be a villain not so long ago........but they know how to pull on peoples heartstrings, cancer resonates strongly with everyone. Typical scummy gutter media looking to make a quick buck.

As am I and everyone else I imagine, but an ad like that is just galling.

You can understand that reaction in the immediate aftermath of his death but that was 4 months or so ago now, there has been time to reflect and examine his record separate from the sadness of his death.

Amazing how opinions change after someone dies.

Gaddafi, misunderstood man of the people.

    Gerry Ryan, an angel. :pac:
