Just bought a 2005 ford focus ghia 1.6L for 4,500 (was 5k) last weekend from an SIMI dealer and the car is in great condition inside and out, but i almost didn't buy it cause it had no service history book. but before I made up my mind i got a friend of mine who is a mechanic to come down and have a look. he then brought it down to his work, put it on the ramp to have a good look, i was there with him. he said everything was in perfect condition.

only got the log book sent out friday. was looking through the log book and notice it wasn't 1st registered in ireland. the previous reg was dez8615, think thats from the north or uk, it's now 05L3495. now i am getting a bit curious, because the dealer didn't mention this. for all i know it could have had more that one previous owner, I am currently the 2nd owner but thats in ireland.
another thing that makes me more curious is the NCT. i got it with 2 years NCT, it just passed the NCT this month. but on the pass sheet it says that the car has been inspected twice, failed 1st time and passed second time. the dealer didn't give my the fail sheet, how do i know what made it fail 1st time?

i'm gonna go back to the dealer and question them on the 1ST fail sheet, previous owners and history

I'm not sure what the problem is? If it passed the NCT the second time then whatever was the problem was obviously sorted. What difference does it make now? If your mechanic friend says everything is A1 then what do you want?

yeah you're right, i've also told meself same thing. but i just find it all a bit dodge. the dealer should have told me it wasn't 1st registered in ireland. i suppose he wanted to make a sale.

Do a Cartell or Motorcheck search on the car, this should indicate anything dodge on it, maybe use the UK plate to do it.

he didn't have to say that at all... if you were curious you should have looked at the log book or asked... it makes no odds if its from the north ot not.. and tbh you have a better specced car than you would have got here porbably.

I don't think the dealer should have told you it was imported from the north.

More importantly, if you had asked the dealer about it and they immediately said, without hesitation, "yes, it's imported from NI", would it have made any difference to your purchasing decision?

For your own information, anybody can set up a Fordetis account, from which you can enter the vehicle chassis number and check various details of the car in question. Why not try that and check the date of registration.

I don't think you've anything to be worried about, but i'd run an HPI check on it just in case. BTW, any post-2005 car with mph clocks is an import.

To be honest its an almost 7 year old car, being the second or third owner will make no difference. Even if you knew it was an import would it have changed your mind about buying it? If so why considering your mechanic gave it the thumbs up and you bought it at a reasonable price? I think you are worrying about a minor detail, just enjoy your new car.

thanks lads for the feedback :D i don't really know what i'm worried about. i guess it's cause theres no service history, other than that the car is perfect. i reckon the car was owned by a person who lived in the north and then moved to limrick. cause the car is in too great of a condition to be owned by more that one person.

To be honest, the clocks should have set alarm bells off straight away as we changed to km only clcoks in ireland for 2005. Your mechanic didnt question this either?
Id do a history check (even at this stage). You might find that its dont mega miles or even been a cat d write off in the uk.

Oh sounds very dodgy. A car that was registered outside the state , no service history , looks too clean to have more than one owner , ohhhh if it looks too good to be true it probably is dodgy. I wonder if there are many other cars in ireland that were registered first in another state and look too clean to have had more than one owner who decided to move to limerick.
