    Do you know any?

As in do you have a mate who has admitted to going onto message boards and trolling?

I've always wondered what type of person consistently does it and why.

I'd say it goes beyond boredom tbh. Surely they must have valid opinions on a lot of topics and it would be hard to keep up their act? Maybe a personality disorder acted out online..

Trolling is deliberately posting stuff for the sole purpose of winding people up. Some people have idiotic viewpoints, other people just pretend that they do in order to get a rise out of others - the latter, are trolls.

My image of a "troll" is a fat version of Moe Syslak:

Lonely, cynical, ugly, bored, depressed and angry.

It's when you sit under a bridge and wait for some people to go by, then you jump out and demand they answer 3 questions. If they get them right you allow them to pass. If they're wrong, I think the punishment is some sort of sexual assault.

    That's my understanding at least.

Maybe with extreme stuff like what was posted in the bullying thread but I wouldn't call that trolling, that's something else. I suppose it changes when it becomes targeted on one person.

On forums where multiple accounts aren't against the rules, people would just use alt accounts to troll, and use normal accounts for expressing their 'real' views.

I know one guy who does that for a hobby. He's a friend of a friend, so I've met him a few times but heard things about him loads of times. Had to deal with him as a poster in a forum I used to mod too. >_<

Yup! That was part of why he targeted that forum in the first place. He used the same user-name across a few different discussion boards. And he addressed me by my real name a few times. :P You know, just to make sure everyone else knew we were acquainted.

But, the guy knew how to act like an absolute fucktard without technically breaking any particular rule in the Charter.

Only the tip of the iceberg, fair play to the people who spoke out about it.

Trolling isn't an art. Its easy to do, getting thanks is much harder then just writing something stupid.
