Anyone ever use a UK branch of AIB?

I have started working in the UK. I need to pay my credit card bill on my AIB account so need to transfer money into it. To do that from my UK account costs £17. Would it be possible to drop into a UK branch of AIB and pay money into my Irish AIB account? Anyone done this?

Highly unlikely it would work, they are separate entities operating in different currencies. I am sure they could arrange the transfer but it wouldnt be the same as just lodging it to one of their own account.

AIB UK is totally seperate to AIB Ireland, it's like 2 different banks. AIB UK is more of a business bank than a retail bank.

When I moved to London in 1996, the GB branches were part of the same legal entity as the Irish bank. Even then it was not possible to do it free of charges - they insisted I purchase an IR£ bank draft which they took in lodgement; I guess at least I didn't have to post it. The GB branches were subsequently merged with First Trust (the NI bank) which remains the position today. I'd be staggered if you could to it fees free today. I cancelled the Rish cards pretty quickly - my credit limit was only IR£500 so was an expensive way to pay ff the balance each month.
