Hello montsters witches, pirates and ghosts.

I would like to hear how is Halloween celebrated around the world and how was it celebrated in Ireland years ago, before all these costumes, pumpkins, and trick or treat arrived here.

First short story will be about halloween day in my family country Poland

It is called "all saints" or day of people who died and it is completely different to Halloween. Basically it is a sad day of reflection, Families meet together for a dinner and talk about their lates members. All people go to cementery on this day to light candles. - thats amazing view in the evening - ocean of candles

Large camp fires are not popular, people don't go to the pubs in the evening, also trick or treat is not popular and kids are not walking from place to place to get sweets.

and 1st of November is a bank holiday

In N. Ireland its a big thing. We bake apple cakes with a "ring" in it for luck. Bobbing for apples in a basin of water [or coins, as I was growing up in the 70's]
Candles, hollowed out turnips [ much more frightening looking than pumpkins ]. Its an old tradition - it must be as my grandparents met at a HALLOWEEN PARTY IN THE 1920'S! So without it I wouldn't exist :p

Here is Sweden Halloween is pushed a bit by the shops but generally people ignore it. Its not part of the Swedish tradition. Very little trick or treating etc. Seen as a bit American rightly or wrongly.
