Sharing in Windows 7

How do you share a folder or partition other than the W7 'Public' folders and actually be able to access it.

On what I wanted to share I right clicked chose advanced sharing, gave it a name and allocated full control to everyone.

It shows up in network places on all the other machines in the network. When viewing network computers the computer shows in the list and when clicked shows all the shares.

However the only thing accessible is anything which W7 appears to share when file & printer sharing is turned on. Any other share just errors with access denied.

Edit You can share a folder but not a partition anyone know why not you can on XP.

Right-click on what you want to share, click on Properties, and then under the Security tab ensure that Everyone has the permissions to access the item that you want them to. Click on the Edit button to change them if you need to. :)

It appears I can share partitions on my Windows 7 (Ultimate) machine, but I haven't tried it out. If I remember correctly, in Windows XP it would allow you to but would tell you that it's a security risk.

It allows you to and you can choose everyone and set the permissions it shows as a share on the other machines but when you try to access it it come up with access denied check you have permission with the sys admin of the machine the share is on.

    It is also W7 Ultimate.

Edit I'm just setting it up at the moment so will just put a top level folder with the same name as the partition. It will achieve the same end.
