Emailing a CV - main body of text

I've been applying lately as I want to move on from my current job

Most of the jobs require me to email from my own personal email account rather then an online system

Instead of just attaching the Cover Letter and CV and only writing a few very basic lines of text,
should I be filling the main body of the email text with the cover letter and maybe even my CV itself?
    I'd still attach both

I haven't been doing this so far as I hate receiving long emails, but I've never been involved in hiring anyone so I'm not sure of what's the norm in this situation

Where I currently work, our internal email system is known to block attachments as it's an archaic system so I'm tempted to do so.

Definitely attach the CV. I'd probably use the body of the CV as the cover letter, but an attachment is probably OK too. I've received a lot of CVs recently, and either option would be fine for me.

Personally I prefer cover letter as the e-mail, CV as the attachment.

Be careful what format you use for the CV e.g. they might not have Word 2010. Stick to an early version of Word or PDF.
