Good to see a large protest outside the Dail last week highlighting the plight of feral cats in Ireland. These unfortunate creatures surely deserve the same protection in law as domestic cats.

Gun clubs are anxious to hunt down and kill these animals for "sport". To prevent this from happening the feral cats must receive effective protection under the new animal welfare act that is hopefully on the way.

    I wish I could've been there.
If people would just neuter their pets an enormous amount of suffering would be avoided.

There is a problem with Feral Cats. They are responsible for killing alot of Ireland's native birds and wildlife. How do people propose we deal with it right now? Spaying cats going forward will help keep numbers down but they are still out there doing untold damage. When was the last time you have seen a Robin or a Wren?

native wildlife... like foxes or birds of prey? I don't see a lot of love in Ireland for the native wildlife.
Harsh winters, habitat loss, road kills - it's not just cats. Handy to have a scapegoat though.
