In an interesting article in today's Irish Times, journalsit and Iona Institute member, Breda O Brien urges Dana to step aside from the Presidential contest because of her reaction and attitude to alleged allegations in relation to sex abuse.
Do members think she is right to ask her to stand aside or should she allow the electorate to make their own minds up on voting day ?

She ends the column by saying :
" She could do something symbolic by showing she understands the demands of child protection, and gracefully stand aside until these allegations are cleared up. "

I think it is a load of nonsense TBH. She shouldn't stand down anymore than Norris should.

She can't now anyway AFAIK. She will be on the ballot even if she says she doesn't want to be.

My sentiments also. It's too late in the day to talk about not running.

    Breda O'Brien is seriously irrelevant.

Given that she and fellow Iona Institute member David Quinn are such high profile advocates for old fashioned catholic conservative atttiudes, it iseems to me signifiacant that an equally high profile Catholic consertvative figure head such as Dana is irged to stand down.
It is the arguments which she makes which seem to be the interesting part of the article.

I've never heard of either of them, I only heard of the Iona institute when someone dragged it up to try and smear Mitchell by association with it, and nobody cares what either of the conservative Catholics left in Ireland think.

Just look at Gallagher: he's a FF candidate, yet he's pro-choice, pro gay marriage, divorced and remarried, and refers to his God as some vague Higher Power.

'Iona Institute' is a load of nonsense. Its just a fancy name a group of twats gave themselves to makes themselves sound more important.

Who knows what Gallagher really thinks. He'll say anything to get elected - typical FF.

Typical politician more like it. Or have we forgotten about Labour/FG election promises already?
