Looks like Emirates airlines are opening up a new route to Dubai from Dublin.

    http://fly.emirates.com/IBE/SearchAvailability.aspx

It seems to be the cheapest and most convenient way (1 stop only) to get to Oz

I just tried flying into Melbournse and out of Brisbane 09/01/2012 to 09/02/2012 and the total came in at €883.84 which I think is very cheap

If you're bringing children, the fare is the same whereas Etihad Airways give a reduced fare.

I Used these flights last summer. Great value (paid 1500ish for two adults), the food was good and nice quick flight. (We had one hour stop over in dubai.)

    I would really recommend them.

€883 is cheap for Oz by today's standards. BA/Virgin or any of the others via Heathrow will would be well north of a grand.

In fairness, some long haul flights like that were much cheaper in 2009, world recession etc... The sister got return from shannon to boston return for 350€ or something, again you wouldnt get that now.. Remember, oil prices were much less then too..

Too right , 2 yrs ago I paid 1050 euro for 3 adults 1 child & 1 infant dublin to Philadelphia return with usair , also paid 595 sterling London Sydney return with emirates in June 2009 , those prices are simply not available now and the current fare with emirates is excellent

They are over a grand now with fuel surcharges and the like.

PS I entered the same dates as the OP for Dublin/Melbourne return Jan 9th-Feb 9th 2012 with BA and it comes to €1782.23!! Almost double Emirates.

Mate went to Oz for about 700 euro this year. A lot cheaper if you actually search for indirect routes and you're confident you can make the connections on time.

Would want to be flying on an A380 somewhere along the way if I was going that side of the world.. just me;)

Won't be doing it for long long time - not until kids are paying for the tickets; so likely will be going via space at that stage.

With the day that is in it, this will be a good option for going to New Zealand.

Only one stop between Dublin and Auckland. Connection time outbound isn't great though.

flew with emirates before to oz from the ukand while there service from manchester to dubai was fine,we were stranded in dubai for 9 hours without information or assistance, and finally they put on a banger of an aircraft to complete the journey to oz. so next time we flew eithead,no probs.

It'd probably be an A380 if you were connecting to Sydney from Dubai, i wouldn't expect an A380 from Dubai to Melbourne. A 777-300ER is still a very nice aircraft though! :)

In Sep/Oct 2009 I used some airmiles to get me a one-way to Kuala Lumpur.

I then travelled AirAsia return KL-Coolangatta (Brisbane) for £109.00 incl. tax and got the KL - Stansted one way for £70.00 incl. tax.

Was concerned about flying long-haul but was very pleasantly surprised. Though it adopts a budget model for add ons such as inflight meal, entertainment and luggage, the flying experience is far beyond the level of service offered by low-cost carriers as we know them, the fleet is better, staff are great and planes are clean. The experience tops much of what is on offer from f/s carriers such as Delta, Air France or Continental.

If looking to travel in Autumn 2012, start checking fares at www.airasia.com in early May and be ready to pounce when seat sales begin.

Funny you say that as the 777 is the nicest plane I ever flew on - Heathrow to Tel Aviv some years back. Lots of room and the BA service was great! Recent years its been the A330's between Ireland and US.

Was this a time limited deal? I've tried a few dates there and its coming in between €1500 to €2000

Dont think so, all 878 going from Dublin to Melbourne so far as I can see.

Weird, I'm only getting a cheap price if I fly out on Jan 10th, every other date I can see is over €1400

    Hello,

Anyone know when there are cheap flights to Melbourne. I can't find any of the 800 euro flights. I tried several dates and can only get about 1200 at best with ethiad. It pretty time consuming checking each airline any suggestions
