Getting a log book issued

    Hey folks,

I've a 1980 toyota landcruiser that I bought earlier this year.

The guy that sold it had lost the log book so I didn't get one with it.

I rang the tax office yesterday asking if the could issue me a replacement. Gave them the regostration, and they asked me for my name and the name of the Guy I bought it off. Then the lady tell's me it's not in either our names so it doesn't belong to us. :(

I know I should really chase the seller for the book, and then he can transfer into my name. But I've a feeling that'll take months.

I've heard you can sign a declaration with the guards and a pease commissioner to get it legally transferred if the book is missing? anyone with any advice on this process would be a great help.
    Thanks

Just do what you said Get the decleration signed and that's that. I was in a similar position, but never followed through on it, but should be the quickest way around it.

You might get a suprise if it turns out he ain't the owner, though!

    Hey barura,

thanks for the reply. I know he's not the owner as the tax office said he wan't.

He was a very genuine family guy and he told me that he thinks he never transferred ownership. Do you think this will make a difference?

Also, do you know where I'd get the relevant forms?

    Thanks

No, so long as no-one comes along and says they own it.

Forms from tax office or cop shop.

Cop shop gave me mine when I needed it.

If he ain't the owner on the book, but he sold it to you, that's how you fill it out Any discrepancies about the previous owner are his problem if they arise, I'd assume.
