    Hey all,

Well, looking to buy a daily beater and want to spend no more than €200 on it. The Seiko in the link fits the bill and thought I'd throw it open to those here before I go pull the trigger with the obvious boring choice for a cheap automatic. Any suggestions / recommendations for something in a similar vein?

    Doc

The obvious candidate is the SKX007, the classic cheap diver. A lot of watch for the money - I got one and I love it. You might also be able to get a 'Spork' for €200, very nice watch if your wrists are big enough to carry it off.

You could get an Orient "Mako" for half your budget

check out bdwf.net, the owner is selling a military watch used by all services in most ,parts of the world, $21 plus shipping, which is roughly $10. i have one and i am a happy bunny, then again i am of the opinion that expensive is not better value.

Any chance of a link? I had a look around the site and found nothing.

Cheers for the suggestions so far guys. Really like the 'spork' although think I'm looking for something with a metal strap.

Peasant, had a look at the Amphians and while nice there are none quite enticing me. That said, the Black Sea (with black dial) could be one for another day!

I guess the Seiko 5 will be hard to beat for good value but just trying to have that look to see if there is anything slightly more interesting out there.

Spork comes on bracelet but more pricey.

Guys, looking at Seiko's from places from Singapore which seem to sell for the cheapest prices, presumably they are these so called 'grey' market watches. However, most of the sellers I'm coming across won't ship to Europe. Why is this the case? Anyone recommend a good / cheap ebay seller?

Try this guy. He does normal seiko and some cool ones with mods. Here is a link to a Seiko "fifty fathoms" mod. Looks pure class and well within budget too.

A Spork for sale with bracelet on TZ-UK, about €200: http://www.tz-uk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=194034

You can send the guy a private message if you create an account.

I think you have to have 50 posts to even read that now Monty.

Wondering about the size of the Spork... would it be very big on the wrist? Is there a very noticeable difference with the SKX007?

Thoughts at the moment are that might be a better choice for me.

The 007 is fine for me on 6.5 inch wrists, while the Spork was too big on a bracelet but borderline on a strap (I tried them in the Seiko boutique in Paris). It's a personal thing anyway as to how big you like to wear things.

Bummer. :( If you like, you can send me a PM, and I'll send your email address to the seller and send him a link to this thread to see if he's interested in a deal.

Cheers for that. Leaning towards the 007 I think now though. Similar size wrist too. Might just do a bit of ebay tralling and pull the trigger!

You can't go too far wrong there. I got a bead-blasted one from the TZ-UK sales board and it looks great - I think it looks a bit less flashy and bit more expensive than the polished original (but I'm biased :)).

Anyone know where I might pick up a good deal on an SKX007 with a 'super oyster' strap as opposed to the stock one. Can't help thinking I won't be able to resist the urge to upgrade if I just get the standard issue.

    Doc.
