    Hi
    Can someone help me?

I have a HTC wildfire and i just downloaded golflogix GPS (its a golf GPS rangefinder) from the Android market.
I know i need to have GPS enabled for it to work but do i need to have my mobile network enabled to use this device?
What i really mean is this thing going to chew up all my credit??
Thanks in advance for any help on this.

I'm not familiar with the app myself but if it needs a gps to operate then it will use up your mobile network in order to work, depending on your network they may have a pay as you go data plan or charge you 70c for 24 hours...

    Hi,

It seems to need data access in order to validate the course info and/or the app licence but once the app opens the selected course you can turn off all data on the phone (put it in flight mode) and the app will continue functioning for the round.

It may be lean on data usage but in my experience it's an absolute hog in terms of the battery. I've used several Golf GPS apps and it's by far the heaviest on the battery. I had to use it last week as the course I was playing was only available on Golflogix. I started with 62% on my battery, put the phone in flight mode as soon as the app was up and running and within an hour I was down to 9%!!! SkyDroid is my normal golf GPS app and in the same circumstance with flight mode on etc it will use maybe 20% of the battery during a 4 hour round

Also, when I go for a run I use the Runkeeper app (GPS tracker) with my phone left on fully and the music player playing via headphones and an hours jogging with everything turned on uses about 15% of the battery.

Does anyone else experience heavy battery drain when using Golflogix??

    Ben
