Removing Gas Fireplace

    Hi All

We currently have a gas fireplace which is connected up to the main supply (We have gas heating). I've never actually tried to switch it on since we moved in but it has a setup similar to a gas cooker on the front of it, dial and ignition switch thing. Basically we are looking to replace it as part of a general home revamp and I'm wondering how we should go about getting rid of it. We want a decorative electrical fire instead, one of those free standing ones that you can just push up against the wall. We don't want to use it at all, it will be just there for the look and to switch on the glow effect once in a while :). The original plan was just to take away the surround and leave the fire where it was, but the actual unit sticks out from the wall too far to do this. Who can I go to who would be able to sort this out for us? Can any RGI do it and if so, what is the cost likely to be?

Find and rgi installer from www.rgii.ie and get them in to remove it and cap it off outside the fire place (at the isolation valve) no pipework should be left in the fireplace opening
