Screw that! For 1000 you should be able to get a well spec'd 2000+ fiesta, with alloys, cd player etc.

    Here you go http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2503613

Personally I'd be concerned at 44k miles after 15 years . Assuming they were genuine, it implies that there was long periods of time the car was idel for. That can't be good for the parts.
Personally i'd go for a fiesta, yaris or likewise for nearly the same money. You'd get a ghia fiesta in 00's for a the same/bit more and its a higher spec car.

Why in gods name would you buy a 15 yer old Starlet when a fine 10 year old fiesta with a fiesty 1.25 is available at the same price! And it has at least two airbaga which would allude o some increase in the standard of safety.

Jebus, i didn't even realise that people paid to put Ads into "Irish" Autotrader, never mind people actually searching on it.....I thought it was all Done Deal for private stuff and Carzone for Dealers.

    Cheers

No it's not too good to be true. It's actually a pretty bad deal. Some nice motors out there for similar money..the fiesta linked in the second post would be far superior in every dept!

Crazy money for a 15 year old car but not unheard of for a Starlet.

Hang on, we're talking proven and tested Starlet here. Too much starlet bashing.

It's a bit overpriced but they are awesome cars. Nippy, extremely reliable, very easy to drive and go for ever. Can't go wrong.

I've had a few of them, driven lots of other small cars and the Starlet is best in class imo. Fiestas are shyte in comparison.

If you, like most people in Ireland, consider how good a car is only based on how reliable it is, then you have a point.

    Me, I'd get the 1.25l Fiesta ;)

I love them. There's a lot to be said for reliability and good solid engineering.

    Don't forget though, I also drive an E31 ;)

    Thanks lads ,

Reliability is all I'm interested in , I know very little about cars but have always heard starlets are very reliable , not sure what sort of performance or specs you'd be talking avout with a little fiesta , but have heard that they give more trouble than starlets.

Thanks for tip re: lying idle , its a good point , or else it's been clocked maybe , didn't realise prices were so low in general , will defo have a bit more of a look round before I go test driving, Thanks

Reliable and the 1.3 engine is quick for a 1.3. Economical and doesn't go wrong.

    Starlet>Feista IMO

If the car was tested in feb 2011 it would have a cert till feb 13 as the 10 year rule only came in june/july. Not sure of the exact date.

    +1

I sold a '99 car this summer with NCT till September 2013 (27 months test left)

We're not talking about supercars here, what in its class is hard to drive that makes the starlet stand out as easy?

Plus, "awesome"? It's a bloody starlet. Reliable, yes. Special, no.

Not overly powerfull either, 74bhp in a 1.3 isnt exactly earth shattering. Compared to a 1.4 Golf it looks good yes, but others had mainstream 1.4 with just under 100bhp around the same era.

don't they only have the 5 digit odometers in them? so it could have 943,000 miles on it for all we know?

Probably a chance it could ahve gone round the once. But given the type of buyers a lot of these had the mileage is probably genuine and maybe even on the high side. Perhaps this particular old lady liked to go to the far shops.:)

Probably had about 6 clutches though:p

    I had a 96 Irish car with a 6 digit odometer.

Good visibility with sensible lay out of controls makes it quite easy to drive esp. for a new driver

I have a 00 Fiesta and it is extremely reliable. Ghia is the better spec and performance is good for their engine size. If your considering one, beware of rusty sills.
