    I like the idea of it but have not done one.

    While it can be fun finding your way around an area, just exploring the advantage of a local guide in a foreign land is they could lead to some real gems just off the beaten track. Even around Dublin or any city in Ireland nothing beats a little local knowledge

    Thanks for replies. How would you go about getting in touch with a local guide. I'm not very good at just 'winging it', kind of like to be prepared and have a plan before I head off. Wouldn't mind a balance between the two.
