    Hi,

As above I bought one of these early on today and I have never had a smart phone of any description before. I've being following the forum for a few weeks while deciding if I would purchase or not.

Now that I have I was wondering if there is anything that I should download, do to the phone. I will only be using the phone for personal use.

    Any help/advise would be appreciated

    Thanks

Get yourself an app called cabbage ultimate

It sends text messages from your webtext, so you don't use your actual messages in your package

    It's a great app

Plenty of essential apps, download 3G watchdog first. Helps you keep an eye on what data you use.

    First things first.

Wifi connection. Get yourself onto one before you eat all ur data.

Google account. if you dont have one , get one & import all ur contacts from your email accounts/old phone.
Spend some time doing this right and ull never have to worry about it again.

    Second.
Get familiar with the android market.
find some google apps. Once you find one, theres an option to view all other apps by that developer. Do that. And you might as well install them all as they are some of the best on android.

Next browse for other apps. Facebook, rte news, sky news etc.
Dont bother installing things you dont know much about. leave that til ur more familiar with android in a few days.

Next settings, learn how to use the quick settings from the drop down menu.

Now, set up all your widgets. Hold down an empty part of your home screen and then select widgets from the pop up menu.

I am not sure what Notes does on the iPhone, but maybe this is something that you would like on Android - Evernote, you can sync with the application on your PC/laptop. Works great and is free.

Springpad is also a good notes app. It integrates with the Chrome browser as well.

Some 'standard' essential apps are -

WhatsApp - free messaging over WiFi
Gesture Search - amazing & quick search app for anything on your phone
Pulse - great news app which lets you add categories & news sources as you want.
    SMS Backup+ - backup & restore all SMS's to your Gmail a/c
usual Social apps - Skype, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn

Games I'd recommend: Angry Birds, 2 Player Reactor, Racing Moto, Tetris
Widgetsoid, let's you create one-click widgets on your homescreen for e.g. turning wifi/bluetooth/gps on-off and adjusting brightness - have tried a few, found this the best as it lets you customise quite a bit. (note: the mobile data widget doesn't work on the sensation, so for that i use the default widget which is already available in the phone)
Viber, for making free calls/texts to other android/iphone users with it installed - via an internet connection

(All these apps are free :))

Thanks for all the replies. I decided not to reply until I got a chance to download some of the suggestions.

I am on a unlimited package so I don't feel that I have a need for some of the free messaging etc apps.

I am having great fun, glad I bought the phone.

One app that I have found excellent is Toddler Lock, anyone who's young kids may find the phone is brilliant.
