I'm thinking of getting a new tv instead of the Saorview box, do I still need an aerial as well?

Also can you record on a VCR with Saorview (yes some still use VCR :o)?

if you can get a good picture on tv3 and tg4 at present with an aerial then you wont need to change aerial.

yes you can record but you need a separate saorview box with scart outputs to the vcr.

    Aerial required

Until the end of Oct 2012 the VCR will still continue to receive the 3/4 analogue channels. If you want to record one of the Saorview channels you'll require a STB attached to the VCR.

Am I not right in saying that you can record directly from an integrated digital TV onto a VCR using Scart as I am almost sure I've done this in the past? Only problem is you can only record from the channel the TV is tuned to and TV has to be on.

Yes you are correct. I can do this from my Sony IDTV, which has both terrestrial and satellite tuners. Some TVs don't enable video out on their SCART connectors, though, so it is dependent on the model.

So even with the Saorview Approved Integrated Digital TV set I still need an outdoor aerial  do you need an outdoor aerial also for the Saorview box?

Maybe best getting a sky box or free to air box

Aerial required to receive the Saorview channels - http://www.saorview.ie/make-the-switch/

A free-to-air satellite box will not give you the Irish channels, they're encrypted on satellite. A Sky subscription required to receive the Irish channels via a satellite dish.
