Dana: Is She Losing The Plot?

In the past two weeks we've had Dana grandstanding on two issues.

First was her assertion that journalists were going to great lengths to ruin her campaign by releasing vile stories about her family. On close inspection it turned out the 'vile stories' were not fabricated but were actually true. The story was based on records of a court case in which she was involved.

This week she appeared initiating a garda investigation into a blowout on her car between campaign stops. It seems very unlikely anybody would have deliberately set out to cause this blowout and, such events happen regularly. While I think it's fair to say that none of us, regardless of our political persuasion or otherwise, would like to see a campaign sink so low that someone deliberately set out to injure or kill another candidate.

It looks very much like she's scraping the bottom of the barrel. She knows her campaign is in tatters and is using every and any excuse to get some headlines and column inches. In going to those lenghts though she looks like she's lost the plot a bit. What do the boards thinkg?

I think she's losing the election. But that isn't news. I can't understand how she thought she would even come close to win the second last place.

The tyre looked exactly like other accidental blow-outs all over the internet, yet they file a complaint anyway. Absolute nutters!

If the same happened to me as Dana and someone from the AA told me the tire looked like it had been tampered with I'd definitly contact the Gardai. Think it's way over the top knocking her for that.

Your question presumes she once "had the plot". :)

She's Ireland answer to Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann, with the same crazed look in her eyes.

Was the AA person asked "could the tyre have been tampered with?" or did he volunteer the information by saying something like "you should contact the police as with my extensive experience of tyres and blow-outs which is what we mostly deal with I feel this tyre may have been tampered with"?

She may have lost the plot, but....
    • Gay Mitchell got lost in a sex shop yesterday
    • Martin McGuinness is lost in the free state
    • Mary Davis got lost as soon as she left the boardroom
    • Seán Gallagher lost his FF membership card
    • Michael D Higgins is lost in his poetry
    • David Norris is wishing Helen Lucy Burke really did lose that tape

All the candidates have some neck on them thinking we would want them to take up the highest (yet meaningless) office in the country.

Massive ego + thinking irish people are stupid + brand of backward 60's/70's wholesome BS + sympathy card = Insulting to my intelligence.

No proof the AA person actually said this.

The wheel has certainly come off her campaign

She simply irritates me beyond belief and that's leaving aside her dark age religious opinions. Her whole demeanour is over emotional, with this "poor me" expression and softly softly voice she puts on any time she speaks. She has no merits at all to stand for President and her entire sorry campaign has been interlaced with drama queen moments that would make Norris blush.

Her attention grabbing "announcement" during the debate was a gunshot to the head of her chances when it turned out the "allegations" are actually the subject of a court case involving the molestation of a minor.

Her blow out suddenly became an attempt at sabotage in the sake of looking for more sympathy votes. The only assumptions to make from that lot of bull**** is that her husband is an utterly ****e driver who can't even tell when his tire is flat or even change the thing.

Her entire run for the president has been a joke, ranging from trying to put across this wholesome image while at the same time being a complete drama queen and making statements she can't back up. Frankly I hope her annihilation in the polls will be the thing that makes her realise winning a ****ty euro song contest doesn't buy people's respect or make her important, and hopefully this is the last time we have to see or hear from this ridiculous woman.

Ah come on - at least 2 experts have come out and said the pics look consistent with driving on a blowout and as Kevin Irving said 30 secs on Google brings up tyres with similar damage.

Firstly, if the AA man really said that he doesn't know much.

Secondly WHY would anyone want to kill an non-entity like Dana:rolleyes::D. Delusions of importance.

Thirdly, I think there are question marks over the driving ability of her husband - he doesn't notice a flat and needs an AA man to come change a wheel!

I also heard she called off campaigning for the next day (preferring to pose for a pic with a pathetically sad face on front of the Indo). That hardly says much for her mettle when the going gets tough!

If I hear Dana say 'people' one more time I think I will shoot the television.

An inflated ego instead of an inflated tyre unfortunately.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 198 ✭✭ameliajane

Two experts say it was a flat tyre. That is a fact.

She never elaborates on anything and gives a vague answer to everything. She says she will maintain the constitution and the wishes of the people. HOW?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 198 ✭✭ameliajane

How will she cope with complicated issues as President if something like a crisis occurred? She can't cope with a flat tyre without believing she will end her life like former US President JFK. The only exception being that he was an elected President at the time and not a Presidential candidate but that is just the technical side of the thing isn't it.

paranoid is all I can say.

First off I don't care in the least bit about her having dual Irish/U.S. Citizenship,it is her right as an Irish passport holder to run for office. She cannot hold her own in arguments, gives vague and completely unclear answers (as previously posted) and firmly believes the press are demonizing her and her family.
My main question is,why is she even bothering to run at this stage?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,606 ✭✭✭Jumpy

She reminds me of Australias Pauline Hanson.

She once made a video that started off with "If you are watching this, then I have been murdered"
It got leaked and made a massive fool out of her.

There's also the matter of taking the campaign car off the road for two days after the flat tyre.
Surely if you're running for President of Ireland and there's only one week left, you'd be able to rent a car to get back on the road!

The whole was clearly a stunt to get the other story earlier in the week off the news headlines.
I'd know why she isn't charged for wasting time of An Garda Síochána.

I actually like dana as a person. She strikes me as someone you'd enjoy general chatting to at a party. However i think she's far too sensitive a person to be running for president (especially in a campain that has had this much mud slinging) and she really hasn't handled anything well. It's a shame because in comparison to some of the other candidates she's had it fairly easy with what stories about her have been dug up.
i'll admit the reaction to the car is a little over the top but i think it's maybe the reaction of a very over emotional candidate who feels nothing is going right for her

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 198 ✭✭ameliajane

Dana comes across as a nice, friendly, warm person definitely. I have to agree with you on that one dammitjanet. It isn't that I am a Dana hater. I just really wonder why she doesn't realise that she is not really up to the standard of a President of Ireland that's all. I have lots of very kind, warm, generous, thoughtful, hardworking friends. Some are single, some married and raising families, some who have devoted their lives to their families and are wonderful people. They have worked hard and some work harder than ever now to give their families a good standard of living. However, they would not be suitable or potential Presidents and they wouldn't dream of feeling that they should be a candidate. I can't see how Dana is so convinced that she is going to win from her track record in the past.

    The quote here:
"He said 'I'm not an expert but it looks like it has been interfered with. There's no explanation for it'."

I highlited the important bit :)
In fairness, they drove from Carrick on Shannon to Kilcock on the tyre, and she's saying there were 15 puntures! I don't believe the AA man is stupid enough not to cop on that the chunks of tyre are gone because they drove on it flat.
I reckon when Dana reported it to the Gardai, they typed it up on their invisible typewriter

Dana lost the plot some time after 1970. This article in today's Indo (admittedly not necessarily the most reliable source) gives us an insight into just how dysfunctional her family is, and how much some of her siblings dislike and distrust her: http://www.independent.ie/national-news/dana-cut-off-contact-with-other-brother-over-claim-2913912.html

I love that bit "I only brushed against her." It reminds me of the fellow from near Emo who was up in court for stealing timber from a Coillte forest: "I only took a few brangs, yer honour. I didn't notice the trees on them.";)

I once got a puncture while driving a couple of people to catch a train and didn't have time to change the wheel. I knew I'd screw the tyre, but I drove the about one mile to the station at under 30 miles per hour. When I got there, the tyre looked just like Dana's.

But I bet she really believes there was a marksman, no doubt sent by the anti-christ, on a grassy knoll beside the motorway near Kilcock (I bet Dana and her ilk love that name, BTW) and he shot out the tyre with ice bullets that dissolved and left no trace.

It will be only a matter of time before we hear her complaining about a Garda cover up.

    news just in

Investigation finds no evidence of criminal damage to blown tyre, view is that car was most likely driven with under inflated tyre causing its shredding.

Well the reality is that Presidents are supposed to leave thier views behind them when the get elected ! However as she has a US passport, she had already ruled herslf out. Amnesia seems to be the key feature of this election !

An intersting question is whether drivers who cannot change a tyre should be allowed control a car / ( I know thereare exceptions regarding disability etc)
