Hey guys, Bought a used Sigma 10-20mm from adverts today. Gave it a quick inspection in the car when i was buying and all seemed ok. Got home and noticed there is fungus on one of inside glass elements.

Does anyone know how much this would usually cost to get removed.

    Im living in Cork.

Open to correction but I don't think it is normally cost effective to get rid of fungus from a lens. If the lens is really valuable then perhaps but otherwise you might have bought a pup.

I haven't had the experience but I have seen it referenced about returning to manufacturer to deal with this and even so I have also seen it referenced about the fungus returning.

That said, often fungus won't interfere with the optics - its like getting a smattering of dust inside the lens - probably unlikely to effect the taking of an image. have you taken photographs with the lens yet / does it produce a big black blob or is it not noticeable ?

It would be no harm to mention it to the seller to see if they were aware and didn't disclose it.

Hope it works out ok for you,

    It was a Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 for €230. Cracking deal i thought.
Is it worth keeping it maybe? How long would it take to spread so that the lens is completely unusable?
Here is a picture of it.

Seller has agreed to give me a refund. Very kind of her. I am absolutely gutted though. I really wanted a wide angle within my budget. I guess it was too good to be true.

Often when purchasing second hand goods a deal will seem to good to be true. In most cases if it seems this way then it usually is not true (i.e. fungus).

If it isnt affecting the photographs, then keep it, put it on a sunny windowsill it will stop the fungus getting worse and may clear it a little.
