Is it true that If you're a qualified nurse you skip your first year of med school?

In Trinity, as far as I'm aware this is not the case. Advanced placement is only available to graduates who hold a Dental Science (and possibly Veterinary Medicine) degree.

You could try Queens, although word has it they don't accept advanced placement applicants unless there are extenuating circumstances. They love mature/graduate entry medicine people though so it may be more beneficial applying through one of these methods.

Only dental science as far as I'm aware, not nursing or veterinary. If you have a science background, you might be exempted from certain early modules that you have covered as part of your primary degree.

It might be if you're talking about Graduate Entry Medicine. That's a whole separate deal, I know pharmacy grads who have gone into that and it's a four year course.

    Which isn't available in Trinity.

Only people who have done Dental Science get a year off a post-grad med degree.

It's the normal undergraduate degree in Trinity.
Medicine: Advanced entry to Medicine is only available to Dental science graduates, who may be considered for entry to the third year of the five year course. Applicants must have an honours Dental degree with a minimum grade of 2:1 and have completed the Membership (MFD/MFDS) or Fellowship (FFD/FDS) examinations of the RCS or equivalent. Research (publications/presentation) or suitable experience would be an advantage.
It also works the other way around, which I think might be more common.
    Dental science:
Applications for advanced entry (to the second year of the Dental science course) will only be considered from applicants with a Medical degree or a degree in Veterinary science.

Given that the OP said "med school" not "Trinity School of Medicine" I think my point still stands.
