old bottle

    hi,i have this bottle(see pic) it has J&J Boyle bottling est 1786 Drogheda on it,i have searched google for it but can find no info on either the bottle or the company,would any of you more knowledgeable people no anything about it?

    Its an ale or stout bottle from around the late 1890's or early 1900's..

    It would have been sealed with a cork,later examples use the "crown closure" method that we still use today.

    Bottle like this would usually have the Bottlers,the Brewers or the Pub's name emobossed on them quite often with spelling mistakes thrown in.

    thanks,it has indentation's on either side of the neck would that mean it had one of those clip pop type systems(sorry dont no what it's called)

    would you no were i could find out anything about j&j boyle,google throwing up nothing.

    A swing top? Probably not..they werent very common and the bottle would have two actual holes in the neck.

    A specialist bottle collecting site may be able to help you..not sure if there are still any irish ones around..There's a bloke called Dave always looking for bottles in the Buy and Sell..give him a ring he may be able to help.
