Seems like the linesman's feelings were really hurt.

To be fair, the chap should have had two free's given for tackles on him.

Should have tied his shoe laces properly though, :pac:

Heh, if you're going to be sent off you may as well get sent off for that than mouthing off or kicking the ball away

Similarly ridiculous was the red card for Steaua Bucharest's keeper at Maccabi Haifa:pac:

The Maccabi player's boot came off and he thought it was a foul but the linesman didnt give it so he kicked the boot at him.

Fair play to the lino for staying on his feet.

I don't think he meant to hit the linesman. He just kicked the boot in frustration.

I saw a similar thing at a Bray Wanderers Under-21s match a few years back.

Bray had been attacking the other team's goal but they cleared it up the field. A Bray player was received the ball on the right-hand touchline about 35-yards from goal. The ref blew up for something that had happened in the box and the other team got a free. In frustration, the player with the ball just booted it away. He was right on the touchline and his kick was pretty much straight so it flew right at the linesman and crashed into his ribs. The linesman fell down, winded and trying to wave his flag. It was hilarious.

The player was given a straight red, though I'm sure everyone except the ref and the linesman understood it to be simple frustration, not a deliberate attempt to injure the linesman.
