looked at one of these tonight and its down on the book as a 520 is this common with them and would it be something to watch out for with them, ive seen a few like these advertised about just wondering what the story was with them and would nct etc cause any troubles.
also when i test drove it there is a abs sensor gone in the back left, is this a big job to replace and would it be causing the speedo not to work.
also would the fact the plastics are missing from the top of the engine leave the engine sounding louder than normal if the plastics were there.
also do all these not come with angel eyes as stantard car i looked at is 00 btw with 156000 miles and good service history
i am considering this car atm as the price reflects the jobs that need doing on it and also there is long test on it and car drives great apart from these small problems.
plus its in the rare imola red car is 00 e39

great input not one question i asked answered congradulations.

    Which model? E39 or E60?

EDIT: It is an E39, no not them all came with angel eyes, the covers off the engine wouldn't make it any louder. I would question why they are off and where are they?

And that model either came in 2.5 or 3.0 litre. The 2.0 litre only came out in the E60

if your are happy the price is right for the jobs needing doing..... and you know the jobs need doing, go for it.
A few bit's of plastic not a huge deal, but I wouldn't be gone on that badge behaviour, check the service history and be 100% on what you are buying.

I don't think ABS sensors would knock out the speedo. It'd knock out cruise control and maybe traction control, but not the speedo. As for it being M-Sport, if its factory, then what's wrong with calling it an M-Sport? As for NCT, if you do decide to buy, it'd be worth going down the route of a change of car details to ensure you have the car insured properly as what it is.

Just on the ABS lights, more then likely it is not a sensor but the actual ABS control unit, they all give trouble.

ive no credit card to check online about service history owners etc but the done deal website brings it up as the 3litre

plastics id replace them to just clear up the engine bay full service history to 130000 and all recites for everything since has had a few services and partical filter changed the one for the turbo

something i may look into more with the abs so then. As reguards insurance i have a trade policy valued up to 100000 so covered in that sence

expensive to repair replace any long term issues to be caused if not replaced

Yeah swirl flaps make sure there done, 156.000 is nothing really for them. 02 on had the higher BHP engine. The ABS control unit can be sorted in the UK for about £200, that's if it is faulty.

I wouldn't be paying over the top for 00 either. Killer on tax, well that's if it is down as a 3 litre on the book.

t0 be fair im getting the car for 1500 so not really over the top i dont think its tested till mid next yr manual body is mint just needing bonnet resprayed to get rid of small mark on it
i plan to take the flaps from it and get it remapped and for piece of mind give it a full service as ive done this with all second hand cars ive bought over the years
would the abs unit from another 530 work wiithout being reprogrammed in

Why is a 530d Sport called a 520 on the logbook?

Make sure its a pre DSC module.

Are you sure the 530d was available pre facelift?

I've come across a few BMW's with incorrect engine details on the reg docs, usually a 2.5 down as a 2.2 etc. Yours it would seem is a diesel 2.9, if its documented as a 2.0 then you could have trouble, there was no 2.0 diesel in that year, it would have been 2.5. May throw the NCT guys into a tailspin. Others will know better I'm sure.
