    hi all,

    I'm an electronic engineering student and I'm doing a project researching into create a more sustainable product for a market...

    I am currently doing research into building a system where the user can remotely select and activate an object with a simple remote control.

    This would be done by retro fitting an object with a sensor and electro-mechanical system.
    The product will come in two parts;
    1. The remote control for the user,
    2. The sensor & electro-mechanical device for the operation of the object.

    Examples of such applications for this system would be; opening/closing a door, opening/closing a window, turning ON/OFF lights in a room and turning ON/OFF power to a wall socket.

    What would your thoughts on this product be? Any changes you would incorporate? Would you use this system in your home?

    If you could comment below with any suggestions on this, it would be greatly appreciated if not could you participate in this short and simple survey please.

    Thanks.

    This reminds me of an industrial plants BMS that would control and monitor all the processing equipment e.g an industrial vacuum pump with assorted valves and sensors in a pharmaceutical plant to run a batch through it's full sequence.

    The wall sockets is the example you mention that sticks out the most to me in a domestic setting. On the ESB website the first thing they mention on how to cut your ESB bill is to turn off/unplug appliances that aren't in use as these can still use up a lot of electricity e.g a TV being left on standby over night. Depending on it's price this could be a good product.

    Thanks for your opinion, means a lot!

    The system would be controlled by the user with just a simple remote...for example, the sockets would shunt the power off to the appliance so even if say a TV was left on stand by...this system could cut it off altogether with just the push of a button.

    The system would hopefully be initially aimed at the physically impaired, assisted living facilities and older people...so its a way at making day to day life a little bit easier!!

    have you looked through my survey as well?? your feedback will help me generate a revenue plan.
