Supposedly on the BTEA you will recieve Additional Cost of Education Allowance of €500 at the start of every college year. Has anyone recieved this yet this year? I haven't received mine...wondering what should I do about this? Thanks :)

I received mine last Thursday. Check with your social office and see how your application is going. They sent a letter to me to let me know they needed a confirmation letter from my college before they would pay the $500 about two or three weeks back.

Were you paid into the PO until you gave the letter?

They rang me a week before second year started asking what my situation was, I told them I wouldn't know until the day it starts whether I'd be in second year or not(repeat exams)... she told me she'd put it through anyway.

From the following week (which was about 5 weeks ago) I was paid into my back account.
But I never received the E500 yet, I was reluctant to go in and ask as I failed and have to repeat 15 credits for 1st year and was worried it would effect it.

But I'm being left with no option now, they didn't ask for any letters from college or anything, but still aren't giving me the E500 so I'll need to do something.

Wow, that is some delay. I was paid, into my bank account, at the end of September. I would definitely get onto them about it.

Yeah I received my weekly payment. The confirmation letter was just for the additional E500.
I doubt they're gonna cut you BTEA if you already got it. Just ask them when to expect to receive the extra money.

Last year I got the €500 on November 4th. But this year I was going into my second year and dropped my college letter in 4 weeks before we were back. So I assumed I'd get it nice and early. It's now November 3rd and still haven't been paid. it's rediculous. Some of my friends who are in the same office and only applied this year got theirs two weeks ago. I won't get it till Atleast next week since I wasn't paid today and it's the middle of November at that stage. Appalling. I think I'll try ring up and get to the bottom of it.

Exact same situation as you so hopefully tomorrow morning it should be there. My mates only joined this year and they all got theirs. Ridiculous!

Still no payment this week :( Rang up this week (after ringing last week and getting nowhere over the phone) and the fella who answered said they're still going through them and I'd get mine soon. He got told they're starting early November. I dunno how that's the start of the Academic year. They should start issuing it in September. My friends got theres mid October so he's obviously lying about when they start going through the forms.

I rang the King Street office if thats the one you mean. Very short with me and extremely uninformative.

Mine isn't there either and a friend of mine still hasn't gotten his. We're both in the Kings Street office. I rang again and the bloke just kept saying any day now he won't give me any other information than that. Very unhelpful overall.

I dropped in and waited and was told even though I had dropped my form in at the start of the year I needed another off the college to say I was attending lectures and college. And then they'd pay the €500 to me.

Probably why you haven't been paid.

head to your local office (kings inn street, dublin 1)

I still hadn't got mine by last week, so I called in, they said they needed a letter of registration from my college, got my letter the following day, submitted it and 24 hours later I got my 500e payment :)

The cost of education payment may be cut to €300 next year:

    http://www.welfare.ie/EN/Schemes/BackToEducation/Pages/btea.aspx

"In Budget 2012 changes were announced to the Cost of Education Allowance. These changes require legislation and are not yet in effect. The Cost of Education Allowance will reduce from €500 to €300. (2012)"
